looking to set up two 55 gallon tanks in my basement one will be saltwater for water changes and other will be topoff water.going to have heaters and powerheads in them for water movement.how long will he water stay good for with out filters no fish just holding tanks.

i second the brute container. rubbermad, sterilite, whoever. a party tub (the kind with the rope handles) are also good.
as for how long you can keep it without filtration, it depends on the cleanliness of your environment and avoiding stagnation.
you said you'll be using a pump so stagnation will be a less likely issue (altho surface scum may develop and impede O2/aeration).
so it's more likely you just need to keep an eye for water mold or biofilm developing too much. some development is almost inevitable imo. i'd just clean it out periodically (couple of times a year). you'll likely have a biofilm layer but it wipes off easily with a paper towel and rinsing. hth
