I'M new to having a fugi/sump under my tank and need a question answered: I see little shrimp/pods crawling around in my chaeto, I've been thinking of adding some pepermint shrimp and snails to the fugi to help with the detrius clean-up. Is this a good or bad idea? Will they also eat my pods?
Thanks, NYC REEFER

Snails can be good in the fuge. But you really do not want anything in the fuge that will depelete the pods. Becareful with the peppermints people have mixed experiences with them. They are good for controlling aptasia but some people have had them pick at corals and clams.

My peppermint shrimp would pick at some corals so I just throw him a pellet or two a week. As far as clean-up, he does absolutely nothing but sway waiting for food. I have not seen the shrimp eat any pods but if the opportunity was there I would think that it would eat some.
