Hey everyone how is all?? Hope all is well. I am a new member here and im glad ive found this site and glad to have joined. I have learn quite a few things that will be very helpful when i decide to do a reef tank since ive joined, and its only been a few hours lol. So as i stated in my topic i have been in the fw hobby for years and i have a few tanks in storage 40g Breeder, 55gal, 75gal and a 29gal. I have been killing myself on which to start a reef tank with and which would be best to use for a beginner. I visited a popular LFS which everyone goes and they told me to use the 40g breeder because its not too small and not too big and its a good beginner tank as well but im not too sure. I was also thinking that maybe i should just get a RR tank but im just confused lol. Well i guess let me know if possible and any info will be gladly appreciated thanx.

Welcome to MR, use the biggest possible tank that you can afford to maintain.

Welcome to MR, glad you could join us. So many tanks to choose from; you do have a dilema.:tongue1: If it was me and I didn't want to spend money on buying another tank, I would drill the 75 gallon and convert either the 29 gallon or the 40 gallon into a sump, depending on there dimensions. Another option is to sell those tanks and buy a reef ready as big as you can afford to run. What ever you decide to do, you came to the right place to ask questions. With reef tanks Patience is the key. Good luck

thanx for the advice. i was actually thinking about either making the 29 into a sump or maybe selling everything and just buy a RR tank. what a dilema this is so nerve wrecking lol

Welcome....:splitspin....and as said before go as large (within reason) and bank acount can afford....:splitspin The larger the body of the water the more stable it is. But do your reading there are pros and cons with bolth small and large tanks....the scales still tip in favor to a larger tank though.

Hey guys well thanx for all the great advice but I think ill start with the 40B and see how things go and once I have more knowledge and experience ill just set up the 75 as well. I wanted to know what would be the best equipment to get for the 40B any advice would be great thanx.

if you start with the 40, you will probably have to replace a lot of the equipment (esp. the lights) if you decide to go up to the 75. it will be cheaper in the long run to just set up the larger tank if that is your ultimate goal anyway...you could use the 40 as a sump and the 29 as a qt...

i would go with the 75g and drill it....but first...depends on which tank is in better shape...chewed up silicone is a eye sore...i feel the 40br is a tad shallow....i would look through different built threads and check out other size tanks before you start building up...unless you want to keep switching around tank and equipment...there will be an neverending list of ways to setup a tank...welcome to the dark side :DarthVade

but yea....BoOsted K24 you said....thats sick...vtak powa baby!
