Just stop dosing. You will be fine just doing the waterchange. You mentioned you just switch over to reef crystal. That might be it, you havent let the new reef crystal salt take in your tank. What salt did you use before?

The regular marine salt is not the same as reef salt. If you just switch over just give it time and continue doing water changes. Let it mature...

I think you are getting bad advice here.

If you test you tank daily, and all parameters are in check, then dont stop dosing. Dosing is what is keeping your levels stable. I would confirm the accuracy of test kits though.

I wonder if food is an issue.
Perhaps your new system is cleaner or just not mature enough yet and your lps are not "catching" the same amount of food as they were in your old system.

Really? So you believe he should continue to dose cal & alk without testing what the mag is? I totally disagree with you if that is what you believe..

Jarrett, once you know what all three are by testing with reliable test kits post them, then we can proceed intelligently.

^ yes and until then... just up your water change schedules.
and maybe might want to look into a different brand of salt mix.

Roger that...

Not sure what ur stock list is but doesn't sound like u have much. IMO I didnt dose or haven't yet dosed anything to my tank is the last 2 years... I dont have any Sps and all my corals seem to be multiplying jus fine.

At your stage All you should do is mature. With the right salt and schedule you Gould be just fine.

What salt did you use before reef crystal?...

I was using the regular instant ocean salt. and i did get a mag test kit from one of the guys here on the forum real nice guy. but i dont know if i trust the readings im getting. it looks to be the old red sea magnesium test kit and i couldnt find an experiation date on it. but it was telling my mag was at 940 or something like that. its the 2nd day without dosing and my levels are still the same so far. i am going to do a water change tmw and mix my salt tonight so i am going to test my new water levels and go from their. but should i go back to dosing? or am i stopping now lol

and rookie about the system being to clean i think thats possibility. because on my old system i had nothing but weekly 5 gallon water changes and a cannister filter. on the new system i have a sump, refugium and a oversized skimmer for my tank and a very light bio load. i think my tank is much cleaner now compared to my old one. would a clean system affect the corals tho?

Jarrett, stay with no dosing for now.;)

If you can't trust the results neither can we.:happysad: If you do get someone to drive you over I can test the water for you with salifert fairly new test kits. If the reading 940 on your mag is correct then there lays the problem. But you need to be sure that the # you got is correct before you start dosing the mag to bring it up to at least 1300: slowly over a few days!!!!!!!

Glad to hear that Jarrett! Try to get "Salifert" ones. They are 1 of the better ones, yet not as expensive as others. Somewhere in the middle.:)

For now just continue with your water changes! BTW, to clean or to dirty water can affect your corals.:)

If you need anything else from me please do not hesitate to PM or RB me.
