i have a nice pink hammer mounted on a disk use to open up to like 3.5 inches wide. i had a problem with my levels in the tank and this piece doesn't seem to be recovering. i think it will do a lot better in a stable tank. i really just need someone to test my magnesium for me and ill give the hammer away for free. if i could get a little frag for it that would be great but not necessary at all.

I am newer to the hobby and surely more other people can offer other advice, i have had really good luck with lps, my first piece of coral was a frogspawn which is still living and looking very healthy, i have a hammer as well as a torch, smaller favia, etc. i am not sure about your tank or lighting or placement, some people just have bad luck with lps regardless of water parameters i have heard of, if they are not placed low in the tank if you are using strong lights that may cause an issue, also make sure most important do not allow these types of corals to stay in the sand on the soft polyps. best advice to try to keep the coral and all others, do a water change, usually helps with the water quality

no car at the moment its getting fixed so i am pretty much stranded right now for a couple of days. and i dont know maybe i am just having bad luck with the lps my params arent really even that bad. cal 400 and alk 9.0 but i cant get it any higher so i dont know if they require higher levels or something. and as far as the lights go its a 6 bulb t5 with 4 ati blue plus 1 purple plus and 1 aquablue special. so i dont think its the light theirs not a crazy ammount their. and all these corals were doing much better in the first month of my tank then after that all down hill.

the bulbs are brand new just put them in last week. and the tank has been up since october. and the corals have been on a steady decline since mid december. my GSP and toadstools are the onlyones that arent affected. but like i said i dnt think my levels are that out of whack at 400 cal and 9.0 alk ofcourser they could be better but i dont understand why they are still looking like crap lol.

I had the same problem. Stop adding anything, continue doing regulations water changes and in a month your tank would be fine. That's what I did, I didn't add any coral or fish and just let the tank do its thing and mature. After a month everything was back on track. But I still never dosed, for the most part I think dosing is for when ur having a tank with high demands like stocked mix reef. The water changes seem to replace eveything for me ap I never needed to ass anything. However, I don't keep any sps.

i dont keep any sps eithier and on my old 45 gallon i never dosed anything and i had a thriving reef but once i switched over to my new 75 it was good for about a month and then they started to get worst and worst. when i first got my calcium checked ti was at 200 (probally not that low but deff low LFS tested it) and since then i upped it to the new levels but now their pretty stagnant. i dont think the waterchanges are enough because if i didnt start dosing then my tank levels would of never went over 360 calcium (thats where the waterchange water was putting it at). Now if i stop dosing isnt my calcium just going to go back to dropping and i will be right back to where i started. and as far as placement goes deo they are on the bottom and have been moved around a little bit the flow is good to. i have had all these corals coming up on a year so i tried to give them the same flow that they had when they were in my prior reef. i think im good their, but thanks for trying man.

I wouldn't dose anything for the first 6-8 months. Let the tank mature. What type of salt do you use? A 15 gal WC every week on your tank should give you everything you need. You should really get a mag test kit. I use ELOS because it is very easy to see the color changes. You live relatively close once you get a ride you can drop off a water sample and i will test it for you if you want. Where in the tank do you have the Hammer? Do you have any clowns that are treating it like an anemone? I have seen clowns hurt frogspawn, torches, hammers ect from being too rough.

Yea i know i really need a mag test kit im trying i dont really have the extra cash i know its not that much but im trying to pay the whole tank off before i continue to drop money on it. and i work right in westbury so once i can get a ride maybe ill swing by cryptics. now if i stop dosing which i will since you are all recommending to. what happens if my levels start to drop again isnt this going to cause more problems for me? and i use instant ocean reef crystals. i just switched over from instant ocean i probally did 4 waterchanges so far with the new salt. and no clownfish. should i stop dosing and start using kalkwasser through my ATO cause i do have kalk. or just stop dosing all together period.
