The problem with this skimmer, for me anyway, is that i smoke in my house
After speaking with a rep today. He advised me that cigarette smoke will greatly impeade the performance of the unit.
this would have been nice to know when i bought it.
Any way. i would like to trade this skimmer for a venturi, or similar model.

you might want to put a mag 9.5 with ev180 (need check valve)...mag7 just would not do much

Cigarette smoke will hamper your foam production and will actually sometimes give your tank a low PH syndrome.... BUT...... unless your blowing the smoke directly at the skimmer, I cannot see how this would cause the skimmer not to perform.

(I smoke in my fishroom cause there is an exhaust lsystem that I rigged up )

AquaC's are pretty well known to crap out around smoke (I think more so than other skimmers). The big eheim will do even better than the Mag 9 ime.

I worry about changing the pump for two reasons. Right now I have to run it with the gate valve wide open, in oreder to keep the water level riight. So if I add a stronger pump I am afraid I will not be able to keep the water level right.
The other thing is that, if the smoke is messing with it I dont want to spend 100 bucks to find out it is still not going to perform well.
I would rather just switch to something that is not going to be affected by it.

i have been using many aqua c skimmers for years . on an ev 180 you really have to get a mag 9.5 with a ball valve attached...controlling the water level wont be an issue, you will be more concerned about fine tuning the air intake for foam production. when i ran the aquua c my friends used to smoke around the tank, and the effect would be minimal

I try to enjoy a reefer while enjoying my reef....should I worry.:tongue1:.....I've seen the surface have a film from Aquarium's being in smoking rooms and actually had check valves clog from smoke resin.others along with myself only recently have been taking into consideration how smoking affects reef tanks ,not as bad as fish tanks but just the same. there was this co-op I resided in that had a tenant spray for roaches.I could not smell in hall or my apartment but when cleaning the cup on skimmer ,Wow,...it was pungent. The air quality around reefs was out of site ,out of mind ,but no longer will I ignore the fact that equipment sucks air in power heads,skimmers,dosing pumps ect.....I still say weed all natural :tongue1:
