Just put in a brand new ballast. Comes with stock bulbs (but these are good bulbs!) The color is a very very nice crisp white (around 12-14k). This thing is built like a tank! Sealed against all moisture, GLASS splash shield (unlike that flimsy plastic), and a built-in GFCI. I was running this over my 40b and it's a great lamp. 36" 4x39w will grow anything you want!

what happened that you needed to replace the ballast?

The old one went out. But I've had ballasts go out on about every light I've ever had. Wavepoint customer service is great - they shipped a new one to me no charge.
