  1. what temp pc bulb should i be using?

yup buy it, I have both a 6500 and 10k. I swap the 2 of them every other month or so (think of it this way, you'll need replacement bulbs later anyways, right?)
  2. Canopy Fans Re-visited

actually 20-26 dec is about where all those fans fall as far as noise. I got an excellent fan site for you (well computers actually). Heres my favorate http://www.nexfan.com/43/132.htm?476 it adjusts speeds to suite temperatures.
  3. How much is my tank worth?

your going to have to search out a specific buyer for the whole thing, I dont think you'll get much for it that way. I say try to seel it in peices. what can you get for the livestock, then lights, equipement, tank. Its hard to find one buyer to buy into exactly what your dream is for a tank...
  4. Live Squid

If I can discourage you in anyways, you may want to read peoples accounts of keeping octipii (I guesss that is the true latin plural, right?). I cant imagine it being a pleasent experience or memory. Not to knock you because if you can do it more power to you
  5. Cheap sump ideas?

I agree that you can build it yourself with glass for cheap. I have a 110g in the basement that way homebuilt over 20 years ago. If you alot of its structual sucess has been smaller sheets of glass that are siliconed on the top corners (It'll be just as effective as a centerbrace and much less...
  6. --= what brand siphon do you use? =--

practice practice practice. in a year or so, you'll be sucking like a champ.
  7. Looking for a really good cooling fan. Help?

being a computer geek (and an obsessive overclocker), you need to go to web sites devoted to CPU overclocking. Its tech guys writing 5 page reviews about fans (IE their decible, amount of air they push, reliability). The 2 sites I have off hand are http://www.fast-mhz.com/...
  8. --= do you shroom? =--

I love the shrooms. They are the perfect coral... real easy to care for and dont need a heck of a lot of lighting. IMHO you may want to add some cheap mushroom rock first. That way you can get the hang of it for a month or 2 (and your not sacrificing something expensive thats harder to care...
  9. Check out my new hood !!

What size bow tank is that for, is that a 155? I cant accurately judge the size from the photo. That is going to look steller. Also tell us a bit about the people you commissioned to build it. There was a thread the other day for canopies for 46g bows (which affects me). Help us other bow...
  10. what about this rock

Dont rocks also affect the PH?
  11. I don't know about all this

dont those same responsabilities also apply to dogs. its like rule five of fight club, you choose your commitment level. there are many corals/fish you can keep that are very forgiving. But you are right, I dont go on vacations.
  12. is this a good one , someone told me about it

the prisms just dont foam much. they say they'll work up to what is is 90gal, I think thats a joke. I wouldnt put it on anything bigger than a 55g. I know your trying to meet a price point and some of these skimmers can be quite expensive. If you can squeeze a little more for a budget, I...
  13. can you have a sump thats to big?

tim, dont worry your not alone, I was going to use a 55gal as a sump for my 46gal bow tank. I figure it reduces the chance of sump backing up and dumping water everywhere. I intend to put it next to the bow tank and fill it with mangroves so I can get a forest look in my room.
  14. need canopy for a 46 gallon bow front

I'm in the same boat you are with the 46gal. I am pretty sure that Allglass makes them (in black). Unfortunately it may only be their acrilic ones which IMHO are pretty shoddy. I'd expect to pay 200 bones. update me if you find one, I was going to be in the market for one in a few months.
  15. One more?

tank looks great, very impressive to have all that in a 15g. I have to agree with the coral banded shrimp, they can be more enjoyable to watch than fish.
  16. Algae Blennys and macros

not much luck with lawnmower blennies either. he did leave the macroalgea alone though. You may want to try a red-lip blenny, they consume algea like mad (he's done a better job than my snails)
  17. should iodine and Ca be added?

I add Ca, makes the skimmer work better (or at least that my understanding). I've been hesitant about the iodine thought. I've heard mixed things on it. I did start adding small amounts periodically because my leather finger became very pale in color but gains it back every time I add...
  18. accurate moonlighting/daylighting

thanks, its now a question of weither I trust myself to design a better one and drive myself crazy trying or dish out some cash. Damn, both of them require work dont they, its that stupid catch 22 thing again.
  19. MAN I LOVE THIS HOBBY!!! DO YOU???

Danmhippo, Looks like your work knows you didnt bust in and steal the "mentioned" computers and special adapters and drivers. Imagine your companies suprise if the "mentioned" reef tank was taken by 3 to 5 men at night. I once knew a man who said heroine ruined his life after he started...
  20. sump or no sump

I guess my response would be I have always been intimidated to plumb a system for a sump. I can just imagine waking up to my room full of 70 gallons of water. How bad is the initial setup and the breaking peirod?
