I wouldn't touch it at all. I have to see if there is a market for it which I am sure there is and see where it goes. I agree that it would probably devalue it but not knowing what region it even comes from doesn't help either.

It would be nice if there was a fully intact wax seal but that is assuming too much.

Everyone who has seen it in person knows undoubtedly that it is genuine.

I'd serioiusly like to keep it in my tank but it is too much of a gamble. I am dying to know more about it tho.

Time to take this thing to The Antique Roadshow.

Does anyone know if this can happen in as little as 100 years? Anyone know for sure?

yes I'm sure because it was heavy before I put it in to cure and it was out of water for at least 3 years. The weight it what made first caught my attention. You can also feel liquid moving inside.

I know it isn't drinkable and not worth anywhere near that kind of money, but googling it up and seeing that article got rid of any doubt that there is a market for it.

I don't think that I will uncover it because if I mess up an important detail then it could completely erase any evidence of what this bottle is and/or where it came from.

I'm sure tho for it to be appraised that it would have to be uncovered.

So you're saying that having been in a tropically heated reef tank with metal halides aren't the perfect conditions for a drinkable bottle of wine/champagne and a possible $2M payoff?

I realize that but I can have a little fun with the idea, can't I?

It wouldn't hurt if it were worth something but if it weren't worth anything then the best outcome is that it's some old hard liquor......... hard liquor doesn't go bad does it? =}

IMO.....the person who's looking to buy it can always get it into the condition they want to keep or display it. They can get it cleaned up if they want to. However, if they definitely want it in the raw state you currently have it, they will likely pay more for that. Once you clean it up, you can't go backwards. If you find out down the road that the cleaned up specimen would be more valuable (HIGHLY UNLIKELY) then you can get it cleaned up professionally. It makes zero sense to clean it up at this point....unless of course you don't want to sell it and you want to display the end result in your own collection.

Can you tell what type of coral grew and died on it to form the "rock"? That might help isolate a region if you can ID the coral.

Isnt dark brown beer only? I think champagne uses green glass.
Brown glass is used to prevent sun light getting though the glass.
