Just watched the video. Why is the drain so loud....

Taking care of that is my next project. The drain is a 1" hole in the bottom with a short standpipe inside then 1" pvc to my sump with 2 45 degree bends, fairly simple. The drain not only makes this loud gurgle it also doesn't drain much water. I have to keep my return which is a CAP2200 dialed most of the way down otherwise the tank will overflow. I think running full out it only should give me 300-350 gph. (which I thought a 1" drain could more than keep up with, calculator tells me .77" can do 350gph)

During my water test of the tank I was able to run the return full blast. I did change out the pvc and modify the shape a bit for my sump but overall the setup is very similar.

ideas? I'm not sure if increasing the flow thru the drain will help the sound or if I should be trying something to quiet the overflow.

Got the camera out this morning. Just getting back from a week in hawaii!!! saw some cool fish down there. Tank has had some ups and downs some things thriving but some SPS dying off. Guessing ive got some nitrate etc issues as I'm growing chaeto like crazy.

Well this summer was rough on this tank in my warm NYC apartment and I lost many of my favorites. (Magnifica, mandarin, orchid dottyback, etc) After a few months of neglect the tank is rebounding and I am getting back to working on it. A new pump for the skimmer which has it working like never before; I also figured out how the bubble plate is supposed to fit. Also I expanded my fuge area in the sump.

Picked up a new BTA, Six Line Wrasse and cleaner shrimp Saturday. Pics soon.
