I think I am going to swap out the 1 x 4 for a piece of 1 x 6 on the top front panel so it covers the 2x4 all the way. Also for the inside you see there is a gap is because I didn't want to buy another piece of plywood. I will just rip down a piece of 1 x 4 that fits the gap. Inside will be chalked and painted white anyway so it won't be noticed. I am leaning towards and cherry stain for the exterior and think I am Def going bare bottom.

So got a lot done today! Canopy is framed out and front section is complete. Sides will have doors and As well as the front will be hinged. Stand has first layer of oak. Have some finish pieces to add and then can start the trim work.

It's 34" to the bottom of the tank but the lip comes up an inch to cover the trim.

Very nice.. I think 34-38" are ideal heights depending how tall your tank is.. Gives you space to work in your sump comfortably... I went a lil high on my recent build (42") coming from a closed in 26" stand.. I like the space under the cabinet but I think I went a lil too high but I like where the tank is sitting for viewing in my chair... No way to really tell if I hate it or love it until I actually have it up and running and really using it/ seeing it.. Anyways following this build.. Appreciate hard work like this..

So almost there! Should be able to wrap up the stand this weekend and start sanding. For the canopy I am using a marine epoxy for the underside. Super bright white to help with light reflection and for the stand and outside canopy I think I'm keeping it natural oak with a few layers of clear coat and then polyurethane.

Do to the height instead of hinging the front of the canopy to swing up, I am using a few latches so I can just remove it to get into the T5 bulbs and maintenance. have a door on each side of the canopy for feeding.

I'm very pleased with it. Came out really nice. I will get some more pics up this weekend.
