hi....i was thinking of making this thread to show myself and others of this 50 (new) that i will be building...i will update it as the tank goes from infancy to maturity and forever!:thrash: ...the tank is drilled with a 1" drain and a 3/4 return....also on the drain side will have a 2 piece glass overflow.....also i might add a CLS.....i plan to have a mixed reef with a few sps and mostly lps and softies(mainly zoos and ricordias).....i am also planing to go BB for this setup and a sump with a deep sandbed to help balance out the BB tank....any comments and suggestions will be appreciated.:scratchch

set-up

ill be watching cause i am setting up a new tank also. i did use 2x4's for stand though. what are you using to coat the wood. i was thinking of using black spray in bed liner. i work in a body shop. so i could coat frame after it's finished. and possibly the panels its shiny black and you can make it smooth or textured. plus water proof.

what setup are you doing nyreefnoob?

i used treated deck wood....and the inside of the stand is coated with polyurethane and the outside im gonna paint it with oil based paint.....
i dont see why you cant use spray bed liner....its something different...wutever it is...as long as its waterproof....ill say go for it...

i was a mechanic for 4 years and i learned a bit on bodywork.....(i miss those days)

Looks nice, I like the way you have it set up. Just one question why did you choose to use glass doors ? are you going to have them tinited or just easy view to the sump ? It acually a cool idea .

thanks steveo....
yes the idea was to be able to view my sump without having to open the cabinet all the time......i have also tinted the glass with 30% auto tint from pep-boys.....i should have went with a 15-20% tint....i feel that it could be darker.......but i can always retint it later on......

im sure the stand will hold the 50 with no problem.....i have used furniture techniques combined with aquarium stand techniques together.....and for the legs.....theres also a center support under the cabinet which is not visible

thanks for you offer steveo.......i still have some tint left also....ill probrably try adding another layer.....

thanks awibrandy......your setup is looking great too i love your rockwork...

the skimmer is a octopus recirculating NW150 rated for 190 gallons
i hope its gonna do me justice......its also going to be gravity fed from the drain......
im also gonna try the starboard approach....i hate sand getting blown all over the place too......i will have a deep sand bed/LR/chaeto in the sump to see if it will help with denitrifying the water......the fuge area is about 10 gallons....anyone with this same type of setup?......tell me its going to work well!!

Thanks on the compliment. I still have to get a skimmer.

sweet set up .nice work .

I know it maybe to late ,I would of built the stand more open and put a bigger sump so you can put that skimmer inside ,just incase taht skimmer gos nuts ,that spells water on the floor ,other wise

SWEEET !!!!
