those 2 plumbed together are the intakes for the sequence pump, which will feed the oceans motions wavemaker. actually, i could have used 1 of them, but in hindsight, i think there are too many holes in the back pane, so i hooked them together. atleast i won't suck up fish, shrimp, and snails in a super powerful intake, since it will be split.
An eductor is basically a nozzle that you stick on the end of a return that shoots water at a high velocity through a 'shroud'. That creates a low pressure zone slightly behind the water jet and the water in that zone gets sucked into the high pressure zone, thus increasing the amount of water circulating by 2x's or more.
This happens to some extent with all returns/powerheads; however, an eductor's shroud allows for this energy to be harnessed more efficiently. It normally works best with a higher pressure pump; however, even on a low pressure pump you are increasing the flow; just not as efficiently. You also work the pump at a higher pressure rating (dropping the actual output) which can lessen the electrical usage (i think).
The main deterrents are that they can be expensive and they are bulky/ugly. However, if you set up your tank right and DIY, they can be quite effective. I am going to the DIY kind on my 120 (Mag12 return) and see how well they work out.

i don't think i'm going to need eductors. i finished plumbing my closed loop tonight, and ran it. it's like a tsunami in there :lol:
is there a device to send out the flow in a more dispersed manner?
i don't think i want to drill a hundred holes in a piece of pvc and have to stare at it for the next few years if there is something better.
actually, i like the oceans motions wavemaker, and that sequence reeflo dart pump is completely silent! i'm happy with the setup thus far. i'll post some pics shortly :wink:

i've ordered some various loc-line and parts from http://modularhose.com/ to help with the flow diffusion. the best i could do was 1" pipe, to a 3/4 inch Y, to two 3/4" loc-lines. i thought about going with two half inch loc-lines....but i chose the 3/4. we'll see how that works.
maybe i could get a 1" to 2x 3/4 pvc Y from home depot.

my oceans motions wavemaker stopped working twice in 1 week. i called OM and the guy who answered sounded like he was from austrailia, and was very helpful. i told him when i opened it up and looked inside all that was noticed was a few grains of sand. he tells me it's possible that a few grains of sand could stop the barrel from moving. he told me to take out the barrel which changes the direction of the flow, and run it for a week without it. he also told me to set up my tank completely before i put the directional barrel back in.
then he tells me that i should not use loc-line to direct my flow at the ends, due to the fact that they don't make 1" sections, and it's bad to restrict the OM wavemaker, so "if you look on my site, you'll see I sell 1" omni flex nozzles mate"
that information came just as i was opening the box of loc-line parts i ordered for 50 bucks.
meanwhile, i decided to purchase a new 125 gallon tank for my sump, due to the fact that i don't know how old my 125 is, and i would like to have the sump in operation the same time the fish are introduced. eh....it's only money.
today i will glue my baffles in.

Glad to see you went with lumenarcs and an oceans motions unit. (The guy that answered the phone is Paul, the owner of OM. They're Canadian. )
One thing you should have considered (and there is still time ) is union on right after and right before the OM unit and pumps and things like that to make it able/easier to remove them for cleaning and what-not.
Also, what version drum did you get? Version 3? Is the OM intake 2" and the output 1.5"? You should look into getting the pipes coming out of the OM to be the same size or larger than the bulkhead/outlet that goes into the tank.
You can still use the loclines for the returns.
