I wanted to start a tank thread so that I would be motivated to actually get this tank up and running, solicit comments and suggestions and finally track my progress.

It's already been about a month and a half since I picked up the tank from Pierce in Long Island.

It took me about a month from the time I got it home to actually get the tank into my basement. A combination of cancellations and scheduling problems and a month later I'm lucky that it's in one piece.

This will be an inwall tank just like Pierce's. Unlike Pierce's no SPS. At least not for now.

Also would like to thank, Pierce, Russ (HOF) and Tim's aquatics for helpful comments and of course the MR community.

What follows is a list of equipment that I have purchased and plan to purchase shortly:

I figured I keep track of costs......maybe I shouldn't

(1) Interamerican Tank from Cali_reef: 150 4x2x2.5 low iron front and side $300
(2)Lighting: Used Aquactinics Fixture 2 x54 watt T5's $330+ 2x250W SE (Plan to use Reeflux 10k bulbs) powered by 2 AROicecap electronic ballasts purchased locally for $110
(3) H&S A150 External Skimmer -$200 changed to Euroreef CS 8-2 Recirc skimmer with gate valve for now H&S on hold ...maybe will consider a DAS EX-2 but definitely will upgrade the skimmer
(4) Tunze osmolator-Got one used from RC $80
(5) Return pump: Sequence Snapper $209
(6) Closed Loop pump (came with tank): Used Sequence Dart from Cali $100
(7) Sand: caribsea fiji pink sand about 90 pounds for shallow sand bed
(8) Bulkreefsupply RO/DI unit with inline TDS meter-$200
(9) 30 gallon sump (came with tank)
(10) Sper Scientific used from RC $40
(11) Miscellaneous plumbing valves/pvc/fitting about $150
(12) About 65 lbs of base rock for $90

Need to get some salt probably IO, I am going to follow jhales suggestion and go for coralife some test kits most likely salifert, ranco temp controller for now (maybe I should spring for an AC JR), two ebo jager heaters and eventually a tunze or vortech with a battery back up or some other cheapo ph plugged into a backup unit for now.

Miscellaneous stuff......gloves, scrapers, temp monitor, refractometer...etc...

Any comments on equipment list would be welcomed.

Thanks..

E

meschaefer: Let's hope so. Pierce really knows what he's doing. I'm sure he'll be lurking around from Seattle.

Russ: Thanks.

JL Audio: Thanks. I finally have a fish room.....that I can escape to....

Still have to waterproof stand......Well I should have done that before the tank was placed on the stand but by the time I got around to priming it I had help to bring the tank into the house.

Also need to shore up one more joist. Had to remove one because of the overflows so I need to relocate it.

Finish plumbing......

I'm hoping this stand is stong enough....LOL:) It should be. I should have placed the joists front to back instead of left to right to support it but I don't think it matters.......Hoping someone chimes in here.

Thanks Geraldo. Still a lot to do though....

Definitely need to clean that tank ....Maybe I'll fill it with vinegar and tap run the closed loop and drain....for a nice spring cleaning.....

Need to do that anyway for testing the plumbing...

chazertis:

Thanks. Also need to repaint the back of the tank. BTW that skimmer is not going to be resting on the file holder :) I am going to get a new gate valve and pvc so that it can clear the height of the sump. Previous owner cemented everything together so I either build a platform or get a new gatevalve and make it adjustable.

A bit of a setback today......Hoping to get some feedback on trying to fix this problem.

I have a SLOW leak by the bulkhead for the closed loop. Part of the problem is the mirrored glass backing attached to the tank has a crack in the glass near the bulkhead. Pierce siliconed that area but the problem is that the bulkhead does not sit perfectly flush so I'm thinking of trying to remove the mirrored back but that's going to be a real pain in the you know what. You can see where the silicone is on the upper right of the hole.

My other option I guess is to try to re-silicone the area again by the bulkhead.

Here is a picture. Once again the crack is on the outside piece of glass 1/4" thick that is the mirrored back.

Really frustrated as it took some time to get this plumbed.

Any suggestions?
