very nice set up.....my only problem with them is how do you determine how much surface area is actually needed to see any significant decrease in nutriant levels in a given total water volumn and bio-loaded system. for example: a min 1'x1' area would be needed for a heavily loaded tank with a 50 gallon total volumn of water etc...I'm sure it does help, but in larger tanks how big would it have to be to eliminate other methods like GFO. I could never find any info to determine if it's really worth it or just continue to use the old methods of cheato, GFO etc......so I'll be tagging to see how your system does...

Yea, I know a few people the are having great success with them. I figure I would give it a shot. I know now that the screen that you use is no longer measured by system size. It is now is measured by how much you feed your tank.. I've been chatting on my Pocono reefers website with that guy santamonica. Been giving me a ton of info on them. (www.thereeferslounge.com)
I dont have a phosphate or nitrates problem so I'm thinking my scrubber will take a longtime to kick in... I also do not plan on overfeeding my tank just to get it going, so my ats will be in slow motion.

Decided to build a new scrubber. Made some improvements to my first one, so I will starting over.
The new one is a little longer, I purposely didn't rough the top 1/2" of the screen so that it wont block the flow/algae wont stick. Made the slot slightly wider so it can handle more waterfall flow... Also I didn't glue the cap. Easy access and cleaning..

If anyone wants my first scrubber, you can have it. It has a 5 1/2" wide slot.

August 2012 Tank Vid. Check it out..
Lots of growth & coloration.
Added a few more wrasses & a trio of lyretail anthias. (I dont believe in bio-load. lol)
Running radiums now. Dosing pump has my level dead on!
No more algae turf scrubber for me. More neg than pos. Went back to my original way of doing things.
Enjoy...

UPDATE!!

Added some pond matrix to my sump tonight. Now I know your thinking "What the hell is pond matrix and why is Ant adding pond stuff to his reef system?" lmao

Read Up!

Pond matrix is the same as regular Seachem matrix, just in larger stones. Easier to deal with in my sump. I first saw it in Steve's (Ultracorals) store sumps and did a little homework on it. It is an easy addition that requires no maintenance. Detritus wont clog it up. (can even be rinsed without killing the bacteria)
It is also made by a company that I highly rate in the hobby, Seachem.
I placed mine right after my bubble trap. That is where I get the most flow in my sump.
Check it out.
