did you cut the top of your old 50gal bucket? i feel your pain...
I am about to switch from garbage cans to 50gal drums and i cut top of mine and power washed it like crazy but still feels like soap is on the walls
I think this was your main cause in your tank IMO. Can you send me that article you read. Thanks

No, didn't cut mine. I just washed the hell out of it thinking that would be enough.. Big Mistake! Containers have to be restaurant safe. Special plastic that doesn't absorb any substances.
It was the cause of all my fish death. No more problem.. knock on wood!

I just read through this entire thread, and WOW! Nice job dude!! Tank, stand, setup is simply amazing! As far as the container, I would not use anything that had other substances in it for anything in my tank. I even bleached my new 32 gal brute cans before using them. All you need is a slight trace of anything to seep in the water, and tank contamination!
Looking forward to the progress and nice pics!

Made some changes and improvements.
Finally finished making my screens. No more fish carpet surfing!

Switched my pfo ballast to 2 lumatek 250/400w switchable ballasts.

Swapped out my calcium reactor for a bubble magus triple dosing pump.. Very simple. Works well!

Got in some new 2 days ago.

6 ignitus anthias. (now 7 in the tank)
2 purple queen anthias. (was 4 but 2 were DOA)
1 juvenile yellow mimic tang. (had to put it in the 30g. Purple tang beat him up immediately)
1 leopard wrasse
1 forktail blenny

Mine are fine together. The yellow was added first and is slightly bigger than the purple. I tried adding another smaller YT and the PT tried to kill it. Had to take it out fast. The key is adding the purple last and make sure its not bigger than the other tangs. You should be good to go...IMO

Finally got around to hooking up my diy seachem purigen reactor.
I didn't use the filter in the pic below. The more I thought about it the more I said it wasn't going to work.
I simply ran the reactor without the filter but I screwed on a thin sheet of mesh on the outlet side to keep the media from running out.. Works well.

I'm using it to replace carbon. It absorbs more stuff and can be recharged unlike carbon.

Went looking for some high heat tolerant lube to lube my return pump. I couldn't take the noise anymore. Found some of this stuff at the auto parts store.
When I cracked the pump open, it was completely dry inside. No grease.
Lube worked excellent. Now the pump is completely silent. Unreal..cost me $5.

Had an idea!! lol
I attempted to make some large cement disc from the left over thorite cement I have. Gonna put some nice zoas on them. Used some small paper bowls for the mold. (bad idea)
2 came out good. On the rest the edges broke away. Still gonna use the broken ones. Still a decent size. Next go around I will use harder plastic molds.
