Came home, was on computer and started to hear some water crashing. Checked tank and realized that my bulkhead was leaking on shallow tank and water was draining down the Plumbing hole behind tank and dropping into my sump. I had to remove the waterfall and drain the tank, I finally stopped the leak and it's filled back up. I am so lucky it didn't crack.

One of the rocks must have fell and made the waterfall drop on my overflow box. Trying to figure out what to do eh. I have all small hermits/snails and i actually prepared to try to prevent this from happening.

Stuff looks pretty bad, well see in the morning. I'm trying not to freak out. Tomorrows another day.

Rip waterfall tank - for now?

Well here is a quick update.

Thanks to Danielle [picoD] we were able to fix this disaster. Took a lot of hours and no food but it came out great. -THANKS!

Also want to give a thanks to Alex for the beautiful rock.

Im still not finished and plan to buy some more rock tomorrow to finish this up.

I have decided to run two returns and two drains. Basically turn the tank so the drain isn't visible and have it drain into the sump.

update -

Rotated the cube 90 degrees so the drain was in the rear and independently plumbed each tank.
2 drains & 2 returns off a eheim 1260. Once scaped everything will be hidden from view. - once i move the tank ill paint the pvc with some krylon fusion. cant stand the white.

Heres a finished photo of the Shallow - it looks amazing. Actually like it 10x more than my original design - Some of the corals are still recovering.

some rock still needs to be tweaked/removed - i just do not want to disturb things anymore than i already have.

would love some feedback!

Also removed the cubes rock and about to make a second trip to a local for more rock.

cubes finished.

i may add a piece or two more to the top of the scape to hide the drain - or i might just let a coral grow out. i haven't figured it out yet. Ill probably wait a week to let things stabilize. This tank has had a rough week and think its time to keep my hands out for a few weeks. some corals are pissed.

I jumped from page 9 to 17, so did you ever figure out that algae issue?

I used to have a rock wall made out of the Great Stuff foam and I think it traps detritus inside it. I was having massive algae issues even after running gfo/cheato/wc/skimming aggressively/etc.

Do you think that could be it?

Any things possible. My other tank is setup with some of the same fake foam rock and has zero problems.

I think my problems were from the dry rock.

I removed foam and placed in fresh ro and did a phos check before an after with no changes.

I did the same with salt water. And it did not seem to be leaching.

Silicates could be another story.

Here are some photos, They were taken with my iphone 4...

Anyways, i have left or re glued most of my frags onto frag plug. It definitely makes it easier so i can move them.

I just drilled a 20 gallon Xtra high to add to the mix for extra water volume and fuge.

heres some photos...

I still need to move corals and remove some stuff. Bubble algae is taking over!
