I have still new to MR but have been reading threads here for a while now. I started with reefing around fall of 2009 when my buddy told me he would give /loan me the equipment (as he had 3 tanks) so that I could get into it. Only had to buy the sand, live rock, and some inhabitants. So that's how I ended up getting into reefing with my 90 gallon corner tank.

About a month ago I got a killer deal on a 180 gal AGA with dual corner overflows. I had known I wanted to go bigger but didn't think I would get an opportunity this early on. So now that I gave you a little background I would like to take the opportunity to share my tank build with you all and look forward to some lively discussion around my build since so many tank threads here on MR have influenced it in one way or another.

Pictures of my current setup can be found here.

Current Equipment:
90 gallon AGA RR Corner tank
30 gallon Acrylic Sump
Coralife 220 Protien Skimmer
Hydor 250w heater
NextReef Media Reactor (Phosban)
Iwaki MD-40RXLT
JBJ ATO
250w Metal Halide Pendant (20K bulb)
PC Actinic's
Koralia 4

Upgrading to:
180 gallon AGA RR w/ corner overflows
Custom stand

Items on order to get me started:
ReefKeeper Elite w/ dual float switch
2x Hydor 400w Heaters
Plumbing

My initial plan is get the stand built this weekend and hopefully have it all stained so I can get moving by the end of next week but we will see how that goes. More of my equipment will get upgraded like skimmer, lighting, and bigger sump but I don't have room for both tanks in the house for that period of time. So my plan is to use the current equipment plus what I have on order and get the bigger tank running but I know it's going to look empty as I will only be moving over what I currently have at the moment. Then adding to it later on as I go. But I figure that the added size will give the tank a little more resilency while I am upgrading the rest of the equipment.

Here are some pictures of the Stand. First is just the framing, second is from the front with the plywood on but doors were not cut, Third is from the back before the doors were cut, Fourth is from the front after the doors are cut. Next to finish the doors and cut the trim then stain. Should have plenty of room to access underneath with this beast. It's 72.5"w x 24.5"d x 36"t.

Also got some more goodies last night! Below is the order with my RKE-net, double float switch, 2x 400w heaters, and some schedule 80 bulkheads that I will now need to return becuase I measured incorrectly and the tank will only take schedule 40. Oooops...

Here is the RKE all setup on the current 90 gallon tank so that I can get it calibrated and setup. Still need to configure the ATO and calibrate the PH probe. Maybe get into that later tonight after I sand and prime the stand.

Loving the pics dude. Especially the catfish one. Lol...

Neither were big fans at the time of the picture but the white one figured out that she could get in and out of it, after that she thinks it's her play place.

I will have another picture of the stand with the trim on it shortly to post. I wanted to do the move this weekend but there is no way that is going to happen as I have yet to start the staining process although that's good becuase it gives me time to exchange the schedule 80 bulkheads for schedule 40's that will actually fit.

Here is a picture of the stand with the trim. time to finish sanding and start the staining process. Things are progressing slower than planned but they are still moving.

Got one coat of Poly on yesterday. Not sure if I will have time today to get the second on or not. Can't believe I am too this point where I am almost done building this thing. Seems like it has taken forever but it looks like it is going to get exciting pretty soon.

Can't say I am looking forward to catching all the inhabitants of the tank. That is always and adventure!

The stand and tank are now in the house! I still need to make some adjustments and mount the doors on the stand but I am almost ready to start rocking.

I was doing some cleaning on my current 90 gal display tank last night and found that one of my Koralia Evolution powerheads has decided to stop working. I thought the normal flow of the tank looked funny for the past few days but figured it was probably just me freaking out a little bit with the pending move.

Although for the current time being I am going to keep using the sump from my 90 gallon system I should do a little more looking around for a new one. I would really like to do at least a 50 gallon sump if not 100. I need to decide if I want to run hoses to the basement and do a 100 gallon or if I should just do a 50 gallon under the tank. Let me note that the area in the basement that I have to work would certainly have the room but it isn't huge amount so 100 gal sump would be a tight fit. Also need to decide if I want to add a refugium to the system. Decisions Decisions. Already thinking I am going to go up from my Iwaki 40RXLT to a Iwaki 70 but if I do the basement sump I am thinking I might just go up to the 100 model.

Looking good buddy. Did you level this thong yet ?
Btw, sorry to hear of your power head isseu. Did you see if its from calcium build up on the shaft ? Sometimes that can cause them to freeze up.

My jaw was on the floor when I put the level up there as it is perfect.

I didn't even think to check that. Good Call, I will look into it when I get home.
