You are not getting them clean enough by rinsing them.
I keep several filter socks. When I change one out of my sump I turn the dirty one inside out and let it dry. After I have a few dirty ones I put them in the washing machine with a small amount of bleach on the gentle cycle with a second rinse.
Let them air dry and they work fine.

Amount of bleach would depend on the size of the washing cycle. I use about 1/4 cup in a small wash. But make sure the extra rinse option is on.
You may smell a slight amount of bleach but make sure they are dry before you use it.
You are actually running a higher risk by not doing this. The filter sock is a great idea but used incorrectly it could pose problems for your tank.
The best way to use them is to wash them thoroughly between uses.

I tried the washing machine and i must say it works great. I dont use bleach only because at the moment we only have scented. I remove the soap dispenser run a rinse cycle, then run the socks in 2-3 quick cycles. I wouldnt put them in the dryer you would have some of the dryer sheet residue left behind but thats just me, the washing machine spin cycle makes them almost dry.

Using the washing machine for 1 sock in my opinion it is not worth the electricity.;)
Take a 1/4 of a CAP put that in about a gallon of water, leave it for about 20 minutes, swoosh it around a little. Then rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, and rinse 1 more time, then hang to dry.;)

If you lived closer I'd give a couple socks.
