pod question?!?!?!?!?

I dont have a sump on my tank but i would like to get a 10 or 20 gallon to sit under my tank to grow out copepods/ amphipods. I was thinking live sand, rock rubble and an aquaclear or an old school bubble filter for the set up and daily phyto plankton feeding. Id rather not have a light on it, if that is ok. My idea was to litter the pod tank with small pieces of super porous live rock and then once a week or something take a piece out and put it in my reef tank, then take it back out and "reseeding" it in the pod tank and replace it with another piece. Is this a stupid idea or is it plausable?

any reason y u dont want to plumb it to ur tank.. i think after a month of putting rock back and forth u will loose interest and connecting the fuge uand ur tank is easier and less work thats just my op

Im just not sure i trust syphon style overflow boxes. I knew when i posted this that i was gonna get that response. At some point i might decide to set up a fuge, but honestly with the size of my tank (45g) im not sure an overflow box is a viable oiption. I haev been looking at the hob fuge systems but i really dont wanna run a light 24 hours a day nor do i wanna spend $300 on a fuge. I just want constant access to pods so i can get a mandarin dragonette and I believe pods are an important part of the reef ecosystem. And although putting the rock back and forth from one tank to the other might seem like tedious work to some. I personally need to do constant maintainance on my tank to keep mefrom getting bored with it.

After working at an aquarium store and keeping much larger tanks (90, 125g) i find that i get bored with my small tank pretty easily. Since i ve had it ive redone it 4 times now, but now that ive settled on a reef tank im not gonna change so instead i micro manage it. small daily water changes, constant water testing, glass/equipment cleaning, several small target feedings, and the forum all go a long way in keeping me interested in this tank. hopefully my clowns will start laying eggs which will provide me with an even better opportunity to immerse my self in the hobby with the limited space available to me.

I havw a 90 gallon plumbed to my main tank with a huge cheato ball and alotta live rock rubble the pods are doing awsome I have so many they love the cheato looks like the cheato is moving there's so many

adam, you can easily do it just like you stated without it being plumbed. It's a good idea if you ask me.
