Wait, you're positive it's the heater? Has it been moved from it's usual place so that it's getting a colder reading and responding to it? Have you felt any electrical current in the water? Grounding wires are cheap and always good to have just in case.
Don't forget to keep an eye on the fish! I saw a tank go to almost a hundred degrees with barely any immediate losses but they started dropping like flies after a while.
Some advice from that experience: Keep checking ammonia and nitrite, adding an airstone to oxidize the water would be a good idea cuz filter bacteria crap out in mid-90 deg's. Cut way back on feeding too.
