Does all the vendors here order live stock without knowing their cost? I have never seen a wholesale flier\list without prices, or like of "I will let you know how much your order cost you after you receive the order".

What I don't understand is why some vendors post "We are getting rare XXXX next week", but don't tell anyone how much it will be. I get the impression they are hyping it up and marking it up as people's interest grows..

FWIW, I stop buying from the Vendor on this site because I find the few I tried have poor survival rates, I also feel obligated to buy the fish or coral once I said I wanted in their for sale post based on the picture they posted, even if the item is not 100% as described when I go pick it up.

Same here, if I say I'm going to buy then I feel bad saying no because it may have stopped its purchase from someone else even though it may not be what I wanted after seeing it. So I buy it anyway.

my thought would be that not listing the price would allow members to know there current livestock without being deterred by the price. When they see the specific item they are looking for they will probably make a trip to the location where the fish are being sold. The logic is probably that once the individuals come to their store they are in a greater liklihood of purchasing the item even if it is above there desired budget. I recently purchase a fish (imperator angel) from one of our online vendors. I traveled the half hour to get there and saw a price well above what I anticipated (based on previous listings) Of course I purchased it when I was there and saw its beutiful colors. If I saw the price, I wouldnt have went there because it wasnt in my budget.

This is merely one of the dilemmas in running a business in a friendly community setting. However, they still provide us all with a great service and would much rather give them my business than other LFS's.

JUST MY INTERPRETATION

Selling fragile livestock from half way across the globe is alot different than selling a skimmer, a pair of pants or a box of pencils.

You are correct but I am not asking why they dont post prices of livestock they ordered but for livestock they have on hand and are trying to sell on this site. If a brick and mortar store - for which pricing is even harder since they have to take into account expenses that a purely online vendor doesnt - can do it, and there are online vendors ( here and elsewhere ) that do it, then its obviously very possible.

I can give a valid reason for not listing prices as I was a vendor at one time giving out great deal`s on tanks and was shut down by my wholesaler. How was I shut down you ask? I have not found out who[weather it was someone here or on the outside] but someone tipped them off and told them about my price`s and they took a look at my vendor site and told me that my price`s were too low and that they do not wholesale to people who are selling on the internet. They also said that there was no way that a local store could compete with me at this level.....

Ok so we have one valid possible reason.

Supporting vendors aLso means supporting their business decisions.

:grouphug:

I just want to make sure I am understanding your comment. You're saying I should spend money at a business just for chairty so they feel good about their business?

Before I get flamed, I want to restate again that I brought this up in response to Chief asking why more people dont support - meaning spend money - MR vendors and/or sponsors. The reason he asked this is because MR is a free site and depends on these sponsors/vendors to exist. Being that I like MR I want to help it and do give preferential treatment to these vendors/sponsors but this is not a charity and I dont have the luxury of throwing money at a business out of the kindness of my heart so I figured maybe some constructive criticism would be helpful.
