2nd on the Potter's Wrasse please.

Also, is this the Maori Wrasse you have a pair of?

No, definitely not this, but I don't think it's the pair posted below either. I need to get a good picture, and a definitive ID. They are very very cool looking, and eating like pigs already.

Ink,

The Achilles is a very beautiful fish, but you need to know that they are quite delicate and disease prone and often do not fare well. They are also hyper aggressive and will wage war with any other Tang and likely others too. I'm not sure how big your tank is either, but i would say 6' is a minimum for this species. Just thought you should know.

Randy

Randy,

I agree that they are delicate, and would NOT recommend this fish for a beginner. I don't believe they are more aggressive or hyper than others in the same family.
I agree 6' tank best, and like other similar tangs, would not recommend other tangs unless a large tank.

Ok, thanks Mike. That Napolean Humphead Maori Wrasse comes in one size...HUGE!

Dean believe it or not small one, as little as 1"-2", show up from time to time. The one I have was about 8" when I got it and after 3 years it hasn't growth that much. It's probably only 12" or so now, and that's with heavy feedings. I original though that by now I would have had to donate it to an aquarium but that's not the case and it looks like I'm going to have it for quite some time more.

I have to agree with Randy here as Achilles are very hyper and skidish and very proned to ich. As for them being aggressive that is always hit or miss. You really need a good size tank and need to be careful with what tank mates you have with it. Compare to the other tangs in this group this one is much more high maintance.

Mike,

Whats up? Don't Achilles live in surge zones? From my understanding the prefer extremely high flow and cooler water temps too. I haven't met to many people who are able to keep them alive....

I not sure about cooler water but the do like a good amount of flow and the people that have been able to keep them have tanks that are large with a good amount of flow in the tank. It also helps if the tank doens't have a lot of agressive fish or fish that are going to stress it out. They really stress out easy and it even makes it hard for them to start eating plus the stress leads to ich which just leads to more stress when you need to start treating it.

The biggest problem with keep one is that they're very skiddish and usually come down with ich very easy. They also come into LFS in bad condition to start with, usually covered with ich or banged up, and most don't make it from the start. On top of that they're place in small tank which even stresses them out further.

They and can also be very aggressive toward other fish, even triggers, and need a good amount of room with as they do get very large.

I think to be able to keep one you need to get a very good one from the beginning, which is tough. Place it in a large tank with good flow and tanks mates that aren't going to cause any problems. Good water quailty and a proper diet will help, mysis just doesn't cut it, and you may have a chance. Still it's a tough fish to keep long term and most just don't make it. With the high percentage of achilles tangs that don't make it's a really good question if this fish should even be imported to begin with.

Potter's angel and potter's wrasse for me. First DIB....

Are they eating yet?

Jonathan,

I believe you are first in line for both.
FWIW, I actually have 2 of the angels.
No, not eating yet. The angel is much more likely to eat in a reef tank, but I'll keep working on it. I'm sure the wrasse will be no problem. Let me know for sure ASAP. I have a few in line for the wrasse.

Michael you need to work on your picture taking abilites

How often do you think you can get those Flame Wrasse pairs? There seems to be a line for them already and I would be interested in getting a pair within a month or so.

Thanks!
Chris

For what it's worth, the achilles is beautiful. Perfect fins, color, etc.
I have it in a 125 with a bunch of naso's, so it has room to swim. If it stops long enough for me to get a picture, I'll snap one. But I assure you, it looks just like any other perfect achilles.

Chris,

I actually ordered 2, and only one came in. They are tough to get, but I'm trying. I've already told my supplier to get me 3 more pairs for my next order (2-3 weeks). I'll keep everyone posted.

Definitely for both if they are healthy. Would prefer if they eat, but not a deal breaker.
