I'm not sure which way I'm going on the new build, but "DIY" LED is a strong possibility. Does anyone within the MR community build LED rigs for people? (I would pay, of course). The "3-up" LEDs and complete customization are what really have me interested in the DIY route.

The fixture must have a clean look and be (easily) dimmable. I've seen a few of the auto-dimming drivers out there, so that would be a plus.

Please PM me if you consider yourself GREAT at building DIY LED rigs.

Thanks.

If you don't see the stuff you need, feel free to ask, I most likely can order them.

Also can you clarify what you mean automatic dimming drivers? Do you mean controllers with drivers on board?

Wings, ill take a look. Thank you for chiming in. As for the dimmable drivers, yes I actually meant the controllers. I'm at a stage of information overload right now. :lol2:

I actually gave rapidled a look, but didn't find too many colors that were "solderless". I want more than just the standard RB, B, and CW LEDs.

They have a ton of colors in solder-less. I'm planning on doing a full spectrum build based on the ratios from nano-reefer forums. 28 Royal Blue, 14 Neutral White. 14 UltraViolet, and 7 of the OCW combo (7 Deep Red, 7 Cyan, and 7 Cool Blue). Aside from those there are about a dozen more I'm not going to use :) The cost was only $30 over the cost of 3-ups for 2xRB, 1xNW and the OCW 3-ups. The total cost for 77 led's was 317 which included the jumper cables.

:lol2: I was looking at rapidled's solder-less options about 3am last night, and I had a few beers working against me. I see they have many color options for sale.

I have built my LED fixture from rapid led about a year ago...... I made it to fit in my canopy..... it was made to slide from front to back and side to side.... I can send you some pics if you would like to see

I've been researching the solderless LEDs from Rapid and a few other places. I think I'm going to try it out.

I haven't spent much time looking at DIY in the past year or so, and they have come a long way, especially with the solderless options. With some MR community help, I think I can tackle this on my own without having someone build this for me. :)

That sounds great. Do they make the solderless OCW 3-ups? I've found them online but havent been able to find the solderless versions yet.

No, that's the only downside. But I think if you mounted them close enough and follow the layouts on nano-reef, it shouldn't be too big a deal. It's also why i want to use a MakersLED heatsink :) no drilling, lots of flexibility and a nice clean look.

If lack of a 3-up is a deal breaker, then I guess the solderless wont work :(

Well this light is very close to what you want pre build.

I am also working on controllable version with my Light Brian or other Arduino based controller. A custom circuit for Apex controller is also in the plan.
