It is interesting to read this thread and to see exactly why this board is so different than any other of it's kind.
I have to say I have read every word from the start (Herman you instigator

and agree with everyone. BUT, the one common tone here is poignantly addressed by Jhale and the need for a forum for our newest and most inexperienced members. I purposefully don't call them newbies because I think that, in and of itself, is condescending. I would go so far as offering to exclusively moderate that section as I feel like I have made just about every mistake in the book (so it seems) and have killed my share of livestock in the process (Sorry T1 and T2 - T3 still alive and kicking 3 yrs later) - Jackson, I feel ya bro.
Everyone has tried that nose grind down the railing and busted thier tail a thousand times or crazy glued some body part to something - bottom line, reefing is different!!!
We, as a society are trying to advance the life of the reefs by propogating and sharing locally. The body can repair itself, but the fish can not. One of the main reasons why I joined this site was because of a group of concientiuos Manhattan reefers taught me the beauty of understanding the reef - it's complexity, fragility and it's grandeur (you guys know who you are) and is the reason why I will continue to offer my experience to those who can look at it as exactly that - an experience.
If I can venture into a little obscurity here - wisdom and knowledge are tricky - Wisdom is the sum of learning through the ages; knowledge is the process of getting there - "episteme" - most of which are bound to time and place (and sometimes a society). Since we are a society here, let's keep that in focus and continue to reef, discuss reefing and have fun doing so.
I still consider myself a new reefer as I have only been doing this for 4 years - 4 years - can you believe it>>>>>>>> there are guys on this board who have been reefing for 20 years. Keep in mind the above statements -
That being said, let's not lose focus of why we are here - to advance concientious reefkeeping, to make friends and have fun in doing so (and drinking beer).
Reef On!!!
