First of all - I GIVE THE BEST ADVICE - (drink more beer) Anything else is secondary. Now that we got that out of the way on to more serious things.
Names will not be mentioned IN A NEGATIVE WAY in this thread for a good reason and it would be appreciated if it were to stay that way. If for some reason you feel singled out or personally attacked, there is a good reason that you feel that way and you are probably right!
I decided to write this because lately MR is experiencing substatial growth and what used to be a small comunity of people knowing each other has become more annonymous. I have also noticed that there is quite a bit more aggression and sarcasm. I for one am guilty of aggression and definitely sarcasm. I for one have been more sarcastic and mean and less and less helpful.
The reason for this is quite simply, the addition of bullcrap - When some guy with a crappy tank who has absolutely no experience gives advice to a new guy with a legitimate question, and inevitably screws him, it pisses me off.
It will start off with corrections and then lead to remarks to shut the F*&^ up and progresses from there. I do totally understand your newbie enthusiasm and your need to share your newly aquired yet basic knowledge like the boy who just discovered masturbation.
But do understand that people come to this board believing that they will get solutions for their problems from people that know what they are talking about. And if you decide to share your newly aquired yet basic knowledge, it may be the wrong advice!!
Please know one thing. This hobby just happens to be one of the most complex hobbies out there. I know this because I have been in it long enough and my family has kept saltwater tanks from before I was born. Even with all that exposure I dont know all the answers to all the problems that people post . When I dont know the answer to some question I just dont say anything and watch the thread in the hopes that I can learn something. But what happens to the thread that I am hoping to learn from. Some idiot, with their newly aquired yet basic knowledge, decides to masturbate all over the thread.
What I really like about MR is that the various forums are not segregated between experts and beginners like on RC and that truly knowledgeable people still read all the posts. But you people with your newly aquired yet very basic knowledge are causing some of us to stay away more and more. It becomes very tedious and boring with you guys around. Why cant you just shut up for once, stop draping the site with your newly aquired yet very basic knowledge, and try to read the thread and learn something to make your tank spectacular!
Long story short! Stop being such a jerkoff!!
