When we going

Either tuesday 8/2/11 at 7:00am or wednesday 8/3/11 at 8:00am. or earlier. It is low tide about 45 minutes after those times so an hour earlier is better.
Thats the only days when it will be low tide when I can go until about a month.

Bring your own bucket and drinks, and someone who wants to stay on the boat and watch it would be nice.

In coney island this guy comes to collect glass shrimp for the sea horses he found by the pier. I never knew that coney island has sea horses and the best time to collect is in the winter time when they hibernate.

Today is a beautiful day for collecting. There are no tropical fish yet this time of the year in NY but I go for grass shrimp, worms, snails and most of all amphipods. Those things are all over the place, especially on my anchor line. When I pull the anchor, they jump all over the boat.
I still have a breeding population in my tank from years past but I like to refresh the supply every year. Of course I also collect bacteria from the mud but I think that is just me who does that.
I don't usually dress as nice as this unless I am looking for shrimp with "class"

The Sandpit at the entrance of Cold Springs Harbor. You have to go at low tide and walk through the many shallow canals.
It is a little far from Northport but the closest place I know to there.
There are a lot of diamond back terripins but they are protected so don't bother them. There are also a lot of hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, shrimp and amphipods.
But you need a rubber boat or kayak to do it properly.
My boat can't really get in there any more.

This was taken in there last year.
