Just have to vent:

I've noticed that people register & sign in just to post items for sale, using MR as a classified ad.
Not to be a copy-cat or anything:
but I do like the idea of having a set number of postings before members are able to take advantage of the "for sale/for trade" forum.
It'll be cool if people join in on discussions & be part of the community, before having the right to use MR as a platform to sell items.

I would hate to see MR loose it's "touch" & have it fall off, looking like a CraigsList (as Kasei recently stated).

Thanks for listening~
I agree. RC has that rule.

The sooner the better.

That's for the benefit of MR, the benefit of us all.

We need more people to post, read and learn from the discussion forum before they jump out impulsively to those cheaper-than-LFS livestock offered by vendors.

Reefing is more than a craigslist thing.

I understand what you are saying, but MR has all the Venders in one section. So if someone doesn't want to see stuff being sold, they don't even have to click on the vender button. MR like any other message board, need vendors to help support the site. MR provides information for reefers, vendors help support MR which provides info for Reefers; pretty cool.

The only potiential problem I see is that vendors that support the site can be undersold by people who don't support the site but still uses the site to sell stuff.

Sorry to inform you, but some vendors have not even made a donation to the site, but use MR as a means to make a profit.
***Donations: "All funds go to offset the costs of running this site and to help plan future events."***
Some even act like a regular LFS & push off items to buyers who have no knowledge or have proper set-ups to take care of these fish/coral.......or know how to care for what they are ordering themselves, for that matter.
How is that support?

The only potiential problem I see is that vendors that support the site can be undersold by people who don't support the site but still uses the site to sell stuff.

A bit of a confusing statement.....but I'm talking about regular members (not only vendors) who sign up, just to sell items without contributing in our local "reef discussions."
I'm even seeing items for sale....not reef related, having the "for sale" forum look like a PennySaver paper.

I think it should be more involved, in being able to take advantage of the classified forum.....

I've been here for quite some time. I've learned most of my stuff from this site & been helped by many. It was more about a tight community with a common hobby, informative threads, trading, etc.

I'm noticing a change.

Vendors the ones without websites or storefronts are using MR as their own personal website. The question here is…. are they here to help members or to make money? I say money!

Also, vendors should not be allowed on the For Sale/For Trade forum. They already have a hook up with a supplier so have them go to their supplier.

We need to set up some rules to become a vendor. it seems everyone and their mother is becomming a vendor. Also it would be nice to have the latest new member notice back up on the home page. I would also ask this, the reef graf box could be a little bigger LOL.

Still on the same diatribe with only 6 posts. Someone seems to have an ulterior motive. Call me crazy but it seems very apparent to me.

i would like to have a check box system (like the PMs) when looking at the subscribed threads in the CP. Hitting 'unsubscribe' for each thread you don't want there anymore gets to be time consuming...

All, changes are coming regarding the vendors. We have been discussing it for at least several months. Please be patient it's not easy to come up with a fully integrated selling forum with paypal links, and more great features. Josh is doing this in the little free time he has, between a new job and being married he's giving this site everything he's got. It won't be much longer, and I'm sure you will all like the changes both regular members and vendors alike.

thanks,

jonathan

I agree. There should be some sort of rules. Make it fair for the vendors who pay to become a sponsor. Why become a sponsor if you can still sell livestock on this site. It is a slap in the face to legitmate vendors, and devalues the sponsorship. If people want to trade or sell corals that have out grown their tank then that is totally fair. So now I'm trying to understand why did I buy a sponsorship? When anyone and their moms can sell in the vendor forum. I love the fact that NY has their own messageboard. With NY being the greatest city on the earth there sould be no reason why we can't make MR too!
