Sooooo- I just was thinking about my new upgrade to a 37g and I am in shock.:Yikes: Just a little breakdown for you...

Used Oceanic 37g Tank & Stand- $250 (great deal i thought...)

Custom Hood for stand --- $500 - $600 (I am in shock at that...)

Tunze 6000 w/ controller ---- $318.99

250 MH PFO HQI Ballast - $140.95

Spider Reflector --- $54.95

20k 250w Radium Bulb --- $81.95

Additional LR - 21lbs approx $3/lb = $63

Additional Subtrate--- ?? --- Guessing $60

New Corals????? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'll preface this by stating that I have never used one, but isn't a Tunze 6000 a little excessive for a 37 gallon tank?

The speeds adjustable w/ the controller you get a cool wave effect... there's a thread right now going on about it..

After you spend $1600+ on your new setup, you'll think about upgrading to 120G tank ---- PRICELESS!!!!

LOL :smash:

I am already thinking about it - the only reason I am going 37g is b/c i can't imagine moving anything bigger from an apartment (and it doesn't take up so much space...)

Dont feel so bad, I just probably spent around the same amount on my 37g cube tank setup as well. The hard part is trying to resist another upgrade now:lol2:

I wouldn't setup a 37 gallon, maybe a cube like a 60 but not a 37. A 37 will only slow you're need to upgrade to a bigger tank not cure it. JMO

Also I wouldn't put a Tunze in a 37. I'd just use the return pump and maybe a Seio. I would build the stand and canopy, it's very easy even for those of us (like myself) that have NO wood working skills.

If you're not going to drill the tank and have a return then maybe two seios.

There are wasy to make this cheaper. $500-$600 for a wood box to put Halides in is crazy.

If you're looking to keep lots of fish you could always just get a 24 nano cube http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/general-discussion/12087-14-fishes-24g-nanocube.html

well I already got the tank and stand, and its a pretty nice size...I'm going to be moving around the next few years so don't want to get anything too big- plus this cube size has the same 24" footprint as my 16g. Space is a large consideration in my small apartment!!!

I won't have any return pumps on this guy- I'm keeping the setup simple as I know I'm going to have to move in a year. I'm having enough success w/ my sumpless 16g nano that i don't feel the need to involve overflows, etc until I know the tank won't be moved in a year. I don't want to go cheap on the pumps...

I also want the hood to look like furniture... I don't just want a box to put the MH in-- or else I'd just go w/ an Orbit MH fixture.. I could have a cheap box made for $100 or so, but whats the point if it looks crappy??

If this wasn't going to be a centerpiece in my 'Living Room' I wouldn't care so much...

A Tunze eh!? What are the exact dimensions of the tank? What substrate are you thinking of using with a Tunze in a tank that small? Marbles?

People here will tell you its been done in a 29g. From what I remember, one example tank was basically a FO with spattering of coral and no substrate.

don't you know your not supposed to add everything up.

if I did that I would jump off my balcony.

Yeah I was going to say someting about that when I first read this thread. There should be a forum rule about not posting any "total cost of tank" threads. We're all in denial about how much we've spent. After all didn't we all get most of our equipment for "free"?

"You bought MORE fish stuff!!!!"
"No honey, this was........FREE! Yeah all of it! Except this Tunze thing, it was $20."

but i was just asking that question on the Tunze thread that was going on today....

what would you recommend for a 37g then that is a high quality powerhead, gives a nice broad steam thats adjustible, and doesn't give off a lot of heat?

I know the Tunze has a speed control- so you can dial it down to any level you want...
