We're actually working on the shark tank renovation at the NY Aquarium and I've been consulting with the new curator at the Staten Island Zoo (they recently cleaned house in the past 2 months) on some upgrades/fixes leading up to a large full renovation of the aquariums there. The new staff there are well aware of the "travesty" the tanks have turned into and are working within the budget to change what they can before the big work gets started. We have friends at both aquariums who genuinely care about the animals and are working hard at resolving the issues they can. Both are working with tight budgets though so things don't happen overnight.

Last year I took my son to Miami and went to the Miami Seaquarium, and it was the same thing. There was so much hair algae in some of the tanks that you could have confused them for a salad bar. It cost the 2 of us $80 to get in, and about the same amount round trip for cabs. We stayed maybe an hour and were totally underwhelmed.

I rented the place out 18 years ago to have my Daughters, Sweet 16 party.
It was great in front of the large reef tanks with the DJ and all.
With the fish in my blood that was the only place I could think of to have it.

Boozeman, how you doing? I haven't heard from you in a while
Thats when Joe from Atlantis was running it

Why cant we help?.?. If we can volunteer our time ( a day here and there) and work for free and actualy clean up these tanks and displays then why cant we look into starting a volunteer group , it will aleviate budget issues and give them some needed help as well as make things right , if not for the poor animals at least for our friends , families, and kids to enjoy!!! We can call it manhattan reefs outreach!! Lol come on guys

If you're talking about the shark tanks in particular then know that they just received a huge grant and will be tearing the whole tank down and rebuilding it.

Keep in mind they are in a constant state of upgrading some very old infrastructure.

It's a shame that most public aquariums look like dodo I only been to seaworld and coney island and I had enough it was sad to look at most fish were sick and looked like they fell off the truck on the way there . I say get rid of the people in charge and turn it into Manhattan reefs club
