hay guys!

Questions on acrylic baffle, never worked with them before. I need 3 baffle to be cut for the sump, do i get the exact size and glue it on or do i cut it so it is 1/8, 1/16 smaller or whatever size and glue it on? how precise should it be? And which weldon do i use 4? 16? And last question, anywhere i can get it local in Queens for good price. I know canal plastic has, but i'm not sure i want to venture down there and the traffic etc. If you can cut me 3 that would even be great, looking for 3/8 or thicker. thanks,

-Sam

samksy,

The cut size of the baffle depends on whether you are gluing it to a glass sump or bonding to an acrylic sump. If it is glass, then you should cut is 1/8 smaller and use silicon to glue it to the glass sump. Just a word of caution on siliconing acrylic to a glass sump. It will slowly come off over time. It won't do it right away, but just keep in mind that it will.

If you are bonding it to an existing acrylic sump, then the baffles should be cut exact. Weldon-4 is you best choice, but you can also do Weldon 16 since its only the baffles. There are two types of acrylic; extruded and cell cast. But again since its for baffles, the type of acrylic will not make that much of a difference.

I used acrylic on a glass 29 gal tank and the baffles should be cut a bit loose cause it allows for the Glue to seep In , and I used Aqueon Sylicone from petland cause it dries quick and holds well and I apply it from both sides of the baffle using a McDonald's straw so that it applies in between the baffles and the glass , I have made two like this and they have held up well and never given to pressure so dont be afraid to mix acrylic and glass when making a sump , and if you have any questions feel free to ask .

Thanks for the info and picture. If I am I'll be doing an acrylic sump with glass baffle....just the reverse of yours. I might stay with acrylic for now.

Thank you. I have an acrylic sump, so I guess I'll need exact cut like you mention and weldon 4. Thanks!
