yea i like the NTM mode but when it goes into the surge mode, is there any way to shorten the length of time of the surge? or a way to make the surge less harsh i am going to play more tmw to see if i can dial in the reef crest mode as well.

NTM is two phases. One is wave and second is surge. You can control the phase 1 as far as I know but there is no control of the phase 2 (surge). You can always call ecotech support to confirm.

The physics professor was referring to harmonic resonance. Yes this can break a wine glass in high frequencies that cannot be replicated by this impeller but our tanks are not wine glasses. The harmonic resonance needed to crack a wine glass is different than that needed to crack our tanks.
In a static mode our tanks contain water that constantly presses outward with thousands of pounds per square inch equally. When you add flow pushing against flat plates of glass you increase that outward pressure on many orders of magnitude. When you add a frequency to that flow you are bowing and rebounding the glass slightly. At the right frequency this harmonic resonance can multiply the effect on the glass. If there are any defects in the glass or construction this fluid pressure will find it.
Jarrett you have a legitimate concern about wave action creating problems in a second hand tank. There is a reefer that posted about a new tank installed by the LFS crack catastrophically. To casually dismiss this concern because it has not happened to someone should not be enough to eliminate what could possibly be the worst day in this hobby.

i have done a lot of research on that, i even called the guys on eco tech and all though they could never tell me it was not a possibility the reassurance that this is not an often occurrence made me feel a little better about it. also i bought this tank from a friend, who i know has kept it as a reef ever since purchase and i know he took good care of it. so i am going to take that risk and give it a try like everyone else. i also moved the pump down so the wave wasn't so harsh. and once i did this i noticed the flow got a lot more dispersed and less harsh so i think i am going to keep it on NTM mode for now and play around from there. really appreciate the input imbarrie.

also i was really worried because the vibration was really loud, but when i called the eco tech guys they told me i had it set up wrong, and told me the correct way to have it set so now the vibration is close to nothing which makes me feel better. I love all my open space now since i removed my 4 koralias :)

What was the incorrect and correct way to mount them that ecotech told you?
Did it help reduce the vibration?

i had the wet side turned on an angle, so the guy said that was not the right way to support the wet side and was causing the wet side to actually move as it was pulsing, he told me to mount the wet side with the cord sitting straight up and then use the zip ties to support it and it absolutely reduced the amount of vibration, not a whole lot but the main thing was he said i could damage the wet side with how i had it set up.

I think you meant the dry side not wet side?

how do you guys determine which mode you want to keep the tank on? should i leave it on one mode for a couple day see how the corals react and if they are normal keep it on that mode? or does every one switch up modes when ever they feel like it.

yea i am really fond of the NTM mode, i feel like reef crest mode isnt powerful enough and the mp40 is the only pump i am keeping in the 75 but i will switch it up once and awhile thanks for the input guys.
