Just like the chinese leds, I bought these as soon as I heard of them and
saw what they could do. Then, I had to rip them apart and test them myself to see if they were actually legit products that weren't made like crap. Like those Evergrow fixtures, these pumps are legit too. I actually just sold my MP40s in my 125 gallon after I saw for myself what these can do.
These pumps are AWESOME for $105 (shipping included). If I wanted to use it specifically as a wavemaker, ONE of these makes a 2"+ wave in my tank. Its insane, and I'll post a video of it later. It also has a random reef crest type mode that works pretty well. Like the Tunze pumps, they are MUCH quieter than my MP40s were. It has no speed control, but you can buy a universal laptop adapter with voltage sliders from 12-24v for $15 to lower the speed of the pump down from full blast. It works just like the Tunze power supply voltage sliders.
Not only that, the Reef Angel guys have hacked it to work with their controller, and we have hacked it to get it working with an
Apex too. All it needs is a $20-45 module for the Apex, and some simple DIY wiring to get it working. I posted a quick how-to on RC.
I'm waiting on my second module to install into my second pump, which would allow me to sync my two pumps. If I synced these at 100% intensity making a wave, I would spill water over the sides.
Customer service is probably non-existant (unlike Evergrow, they are awesome), and time will tell if these pumps last, but you are basically getting quiet pumps that push just as much or more water than a Tunze 6105 and
Vortech MP40, for 1/4th the price. No extra heat in the tank either.
Two WP-40s with Apex module mod - $290. With laptop adapter speed mods, no apex - $240
Two MP40s with WXM module - $1055
No brainer. Its about time someone came out with a reasonably priced powerhead like this.
