just curious, why is it there fault that the tank cracked because of your attempt to drill it? cant these things happen if u drill a tank regardless if the glass is tempered or not. it cant be a sure thing that u automatically will drill the tank with no issues right?

The problem lies with the claims the company made about their tank. They said it was not constructed with tempered glass on the back panel. The way that tank shattered shows that there is no question, no doubt whatsoever that it was built with tempered glass. Tempered glass has a zero success rate for drilling. It cannot be drilled, period, the end.

You ask can a standard glass tank crack? Yes, certainly can. However, the success rate is probably in the 95% category (totally conjecture with regard to the %), and you CAN succeed, where you cannot with tempered.

The problem with the Deep Blue tank in this thread had nothing to do with Rich drilling the tank but everything to do with the claim that the company incorrectly stated it was built with standard glass, not tempered.

If it was a rimless tank, then it is tempered. All rimless Deep Blue tanks are tempered and always have been. I wouldn't blame the company for it, you said they told you it wasn't tempered and then later said you found their email so you could write them and tell them it was tempered and it shattered. Also you stated you don't have their phone #, when I emailed deep blue last year they sent a phone number attached with the response email. Sorry your tank cracked but I don't believe you ever contacted deep blue or that you did your home work. If the tank isn't rimless then it's 50/50 on it being tempered as they use that tempered glass on a lot of their tanks.

I don't understand your post. First you said all rimless tanks tempered and the end of the post you say 50/50. Confused

I'm pretty sure you said you did, secondly it's pretty common knowledge they use tempered glass on almost everything. There are plenty of write ups out there on it. Do your homework next time.

It's weird because the 57 rimless I had was tempered on all 5 panes. Even had 2 stickers on the bottom that said "All panes tempered". Sorry to this happen either way. Seems to save money DB may be substituting panes where needed.

Jarrett people will fight till there last breathe. Also i know many people who like drilled tanks to RR tanks. It saves on space especially in a small tank. As for the tempered glass shattering if deep blue had no stickers marked and if the order wasnt for tempered glass i see no reason why they wouldnt refund you money. Now if it wasnt tempered and it broke they have no responsibility obviously. DB im sure knows that people drill there tanks sometimes and its there responsibility to mark there tanks.

+1. Tempered glass shatters. All other glass would just crack.
