out of curiousity, when drilling the tank are you keeping water on what your drilling ?
just curious, why is it there fault that the tank cracked because of your attempt to drill it? cant these things happen if u drill a tank regardless if the glass is tempered or not. it cant be a sure thing that u automatically will drill the tank with no issues right?

Thank you Russ well said
If it was a rimless tank, then it is tempered. All rimless Deep Blue tanks are tempered and always have been. I wouldn't blame the company for it, you said they told you it wasn't tempered and then later said you found their email so you could write them and tell them it was tempered and it shattered. Also you stated you don't have their phone #, when I emailed deep blue last year they sent a phone number attached with the response email. Sorry your tank cracked but I don't believe you ever contacted deep blue or that you did your home work. If the tank isn't rimless then it's 50/50 on it being tempered as they use that tempered glass on a lot of their tanks.

So the tank was undrilled and cheap. If you say the overflows on the RR deep blue are huge and bulky, cant you just remove them and put custom ones in and not have to worry about drilling?
First of all i never said i contacted DB so you need to go back to post one and reread buddy second you are WRONG i will let the picture say the rest... i rest my case NEXT!!! ooo and also please go on their website and find me a number if you can thank you... just incase you wanna know i have the 57 gallon rimless reef ready one

+1. Tempered glass shatters. All other glass would just crack. The problem lies with the claims the company made about their tank. They said it was not constructed with tempered glass on the back panel. The way that tank shattered shows that there is no question, no doubt whatsoever that it was built with tempered glass. Tempered glass has a zero success rate for drilling. It cannot be drilled, period, the end.
You ask can a standard glass tank crack? Yes, certainly can. However, the success rate is probably in the 95% category (totally conjecture with regard to the %), and you CAN succeed, where you cannot with tempered.
The problem with the Deep Blue tank in this thread had nothing to do with Rich drilling the tank but everything to do with the claim that the company incorrectly stated it was built with standard glass, not tempered.
