Wow, I'm really liking this thread now. ;)

First, thanks for all the tips & concerns. Lots of lessons learned.

I have done a lot of reading and more reading about eurobracing

So I applied what I learned from other reefers who had the same issue.

I did put the brace on top of the tank. Plus the brace itself is 72" x 3" x .5". Specifically cut just for this purpose. And it cost a lot :( ..... Shhh my wife doesn't know it yet...

As I mentioned before I did put the water level down before clamping & measuring & bracing.

Tomorrow I will be removing the clamp. Crossing my finger that it will hold.

Btw: I will put 2 braces in the middle for more secure structure. Wish me luck!!!

Beginning of the "This is how it Ends"

I can bet his wife doesn't know about the situation

good luck with the fix,

I lol'd for real.

I put this thread down for a week or so. But i cant get enough. It's an emotional roller coaster.

Im envisioning his wife coming home with the groceries. Walking up the steps. A sudden POP. Whoooooosh! 180 gallons of water heads for the door. In a panic Nharbrate turns the corner to see his wife drenched and the paper bag of groceries brakes apart. Nharbrate looks at his wife and says, "omg what did you do"!

Here's my EurobrAce

Unless there are some weird optical illusions going on, that doesn't look very good. Where the face of the glass lines up with the edge of the brace, it looks as if the ends are flush but the center area still protrudes. I don't think this one is an illusion and might end up being a serious problem since it's now permanently bowed.

Also, on top corner of the right edge of the front panel, where it meets the right side panel, looks to be shifted, but that might just be the silicone from the bracing needing to be cleaned up.

Absolutely correct. Only difference I see is that he put the euro bracing inside the tank as opposed to on top of the tank. It should have, and would be MUCH more structurally sound, if it were siliconed on top of the tank.

I agree with Kathy C. This 'fix' is not something I'd chance in my home.

Hard to tell if it's on top or inside honestly. I hope it's on top though lol

Oh okay, good the brace is on top, my phone had issues catching up again lol. I wouldn't touch anything when it comes to those clamps. I still say you should have drained this tank empty before making this fix, so it gave the glass time to rebound basically. I hope this works out for you, I think you did okay, but doing stuff like this requires cleaning all edges with acetone, including the glass you are planning to use, to get that perfect hold. Having had saltwater still inside, doesn't seem like the best idea. Good luck

Latest update.....

I can now sleep well at night. My tank is stable. No more bowing. No more worries.

I have monitored the front and back of the tank after removing the clamp. The eurobrace really strengthen the structure of the tank.

I'll try to post some pictures tonight. :)

Well, the euro brace that I put served it's purpose. The tank is straight no bowing at all. I even set the waves from 2x MP40s. It's really stable.

I will try to post pictures tonight.
