pardon my confusion but I was "advised" to get 2 150watt heaters for my 75gal instead of a 300watt single heater. isnt that a bit of an overkill for a 75 tank? I now have 150 and 200 watt heaters but am scared that its just too much heat.

Btw, after long and laborious research I have come to the conclusion that ebo jaggers are the best bet in terms of reliability and quality of work.

the fluval 300w is recommended for 100g. the jager 300w is rated 160plus

So does Jaeger overrate or Hagen underrate? Seems to me there are so many variables in real world applications---room temp and consistency of room temp, pumps and other heat producing items in or not in system, surface agitation causing evaporation, relative humidity in the room etc. that it is going to be really hard to say one way or the other with any certainty beyond ones particular situation.

i think you got good advice, they recommend 3watts per gal depending on room temp.
your heaters should shut off when they reach the set point, the more watts the faster it will cycle. like mentioned you should run them on a controller.

pratt thats a good question, seems every heater is rated different watts to gallons.
