Picked these guys up at the LIRA meeting tonight! They're freaking awesome and are proving to be super hardy. Also got a crazy deal on them, they will be available on the Divers Den Monday at normal retail (so you had to be at the meeting). Besides the deals like these guys the meetings are really worth it especially with the lineup of speakers. Anyway, here's a link to the Reef Gen info and a quick video of my new favorite cephs!

Laura has been working on perfecting their rearing for years. The juveniles are a real PITA to care for and wild caught are far more difficult to deal with even if you know what you're doing. Reef Gen is only releasing them when they get to a size where they're eating any grass shrimp you offer them which is roughly in the 2 month mark, which still gives you 13 months of life expectancy (this is direct from Laura during the meeting last night).

Basically you get these at a point where all the hard work is done and they're actually hardy. These two were driven to the meeting put in a small tank without flow and ate shrimp in front of everybody there, then driven back to my place where they also ate during acclimation, they're little machines.

I ended up watching them until about 3am since they just explored their new home. Anytime they came across something new you could see their little brains trying to figure it out, plus watching them eat is insanely entertaining.

Tommy: Reef Gen can pair them for you, it's a little rough if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. The Cuttles prefer to at least be in a pair since they are social and intelligent but they can do well in groups depending on tank size. My pair are currently in a sectioned off area of a deep blue 60 frag system I use for housing client livestock but I'll eventually build them their own system once they get used to me.

The big guy was just trying to camouflage against one of the black zip ties. He turned all white with a black square around his eye into a black stripe down two tentacles. I don't even have time to take pics or video of what they do since it's so fast. You can see the intelligence in the way they interact with their space and hunt their food.

Phil: They're insanely awesome! I literally shot out of bed this morning just to go feed them again. Haven't even watched TV since yesterday, I'm just standing in front of the tank watching them do their thing. The flashing while hunting is really cool but the camo they come up with is really interesting to watch.
