This is a constant debate. On a federal level marijuana is illegal, however, it is legal in certain states medicinally and even now so recreationally(Colorado). This is why Feds can still raid shops in Cali and various other places. How about we all just light one @ the next frag swap lol

It is like a reverse fuge. In your reefs our fuges keep our tanks healthy. In a hydroponic system the tank is keeping the fuge healthy. I would imagine you sill need a large load to keep a decent amount of plants. I am just going to take a guess but 18in of goldfish per plant.

Seriously, people are getting bent out of shape because of an article about the similarities between the reefing hobby and growing reefer? Did you read the article? You know that they use hydroponics (dosing) and lighting (MH/led). There is a lot of overlap.
It wasn't an advertisement for weed, it was an informative article. I get a kick out of the fact that someone can equate this post with the idea that MR might somehow show a film depicting murder on the homepage in the future. The fact that you can even make that leap in your mind, and write it in this forum, makes it clear that the article about weed is not the real problem here.

There is overlap with a lot of things in this hobby. We can show thread on chemistry of many things that are very similar to reef keeping but those types of articles shouldn't be talked about here either. A few years ago if someone posted this it would have been taken down in 5 min. The articles you usually post us reef keepers could use in the hobby this has zero to do with what we could use in our aquarium just useless information that shouldn't be posted here. We deal with garbage on the radio, tv and on the web that I try and avoid by looking at my web pages on reef keeping. But like I said it's your site you chose what to post and what not to so I'll choose to ignore that article on reef.com and go about my day. By the way I know it may sound confrontational what I wrote but it's not just giving my opinion

On a side note, back when people had just started using power compact bulbs on nano-reef, I had brought a "10k+actinics" to France and the only place where I found out information about how to properly use it (ballast type and connections) ended up being a website where kids were showing how to grow weed inside a desk (where the drawers had been removed, and "fake drawers" mounted on a board).

Think about it in a serious note for a minute.
If one could find a way to de-salinate the water coming from a skimmer / waste type device, it would be a great product.
I personally hate the chemicals, gmo's, hormones etc.. We are adding to our food supply.
(Speaking as a chef and growing veggies and such).
I for one spend a vast majority of my free time researching, learning & just pondering subjects related to this hobby, so I think it is ok, once and awhile, to poke fun at things, break up all the seriousness. Thats relating to anything.

Chefjpaul, maybe the problem needs to be considered the other way around, and you would have to figure out how much salinity is acceptable? I was thinking about desalination but those processes are osmosis, so we might lose the "pollution" (nutrients) we are looking for in this case. In the end it would be a thin line between dilution of the salts and dilution of the nutrients.

I did read the article. I didn't see any mention of lighting, metal halide or LEDs. The only mention of dosing was that growers sometimes does aquaponics but it is a secret how they do dose (not very informative).
It's great that you get a kick out of the promotion of illegal activities on the homepage. You spend twice as much of your post attacking a person then showing how growing drugs is related to reefing. I am not the only person who thinks the connection between drug cultivation and reefing is a STRETCH.
Since people use baking soda in reefs and people use baking soda in crack someone should write an article on how to cook crack for the website. Of course I mean medical crack.
Maybe I missed something in the article. It will be great for you to show where in the article it discusses lighting and the process of dosing.
Are threads asking for lighting advice on growing pot now OK? I want to know what 6 bulb t5 combo I should use for growing purple haze, mawi wowi and koosh.
