Couple of ideas: cavitation (less likely); too close to the surface and pulling in air through those God-awful venturis (more likely).

If they're not hooked up to any lift-tubes or anything like that, you may be getting bubbles through some other source, it's a bit difficult to say without being more hip to your particular setup.

It seems to me that if your powerhead is completely under the water, then there must be air trapped in the power head. Or as SM said, cavitation. However, I've never heard of powerheads cavitating.

I have 4 powerhead 802's, at any point in time I am getting the burst of microbubbles every 15 seconds or so from one of them.

have moved around, connected tighter, moved lower in the tank.

Next step is to trash them and get a tunze powerhead.

If you find a solution let me know!!

Are you guys sure they arent sucking any air bubbles in? When I turn my return on after its been off, it spits lots of big bubbles out, which in turn get ingested by my powerheads and spit out.

I think cavitation with the Hagen PH's is a credible hypothesis. My 402 is completely submerged (well, except for the power cord). But after several months, it still blows tiny bubbles once in a while.

What color is ignant? I know anthracite, turquoise, indigo, and chartreuse, among other colors (celeste green is a particular un-favorite of mine). 8)

yea mine too are place low enough as to not get any suction of air through a venturi, i do have some algea growing on it might that be a reason??

I have the same problem with 4 of my hagens. They are all at least 6 inches from the top of the tank and they all seem to burp micro bubbles periodically.

I've never had this problem, well at least that I've seen. I hope it doesnt start to develop. Is there a remedy yet or just buy new PHs?

Im having the same problem with one of my MaxiJets. Its totally submerged and cleaning it seemed to reduce the frequency but didnt eliminate it. Ive had it for close to a year so I think its may be just a matter of age for my MJ.

Which way is the inlet facing? The water in the tanks is highly oxygenated and if they are facing down, bubbles will form in the inlet. They once they are big enough (they will still be very small) they go through the impeller and get chopped into the micro bubbles. Try adjusting the powerhead so that the inlet is parallel to the floor. This should keep the bubbles from forming. It cleared it up for me in a previous tank anyway.

I have the same problem with my Hagen 402's.

I'm going out on a limb here and saying that they are sucking
air through the power cords, (that can't be good)

If anyone wants to trash their hagens, you can send them to me. Anyway, is it possible that running our systems with such high o2 content might allow the powerheads to "grab" some of that excess O2 out of solution? If they aren't getting it form the surface, there aren't many other possibilities.............shut off the skimmer for a couple of days and lower the powerhead to at least 5 inches form the surface. Let me know if that helps :)

 I was having the same problem with my Zoomed powersweeper and my LFS told me to turn off the PH, keep it submerged but unhook it from the base part and swish it around it the water 20-30 secs to get rid of any trapped air bubbles then place it back on the base and resume power. It worked for mine, maybe you should try it also??

Powerheads are the most aggravating, unsightly gadgets. I too suffered from the micro bubbles for a long time until I plumbed a return manifold. Bye bye powerheads, hello crystal clear water.

Anyone thought of contacting the manufac. about the problem? They usually test the d@mn things before they sell them so they may have the answer!
