Unless you meant seamaiden as your nick name, I cant tell what your other names might be; seamaiden on google got me a bunch of history and art/film links... Dont suppose youre a goddess of the sea, are you?
Actually, that whole "googling" names like Greg and seamaiden I really didnt get in the first place; was I supposed to search under groups or something? I was very skeptical when I though of just finding information about people you meet on forums on google like that... And didnt really get the whole relevance of it to your cutting verbal parry there...

Crap; Ill put in my sig just so you can see... Well, its my avatar now, but its not the motion one that the guys on that other board has!
How do I get moving/motion picture avatars to load on this thing? How does everyone else do it?! By everyone, I mean Hwarang, among others whose names I cant remember...

280 Posts! Like the famous girly-car of the 70'-80's, the Datsun 280 Z! I know, I know; the 240 Z started it, but the 280 was another milestone anyway...

The advice was great. Text book great. I agree; couldnt have been more informative! I have no idea who Greg is, and I really cant stand reading long articles I cant hold in my hands (my eyes get way tired reading online). I didnt dispute that or his reputation at all seamaiden.

Haven't you heard? You can smash Condy anemones with a rock and keep them out of water. Why would you think you need to feed them?

But can you really tell me that is a remark an enlightened or professional person makes after hes just finished royally beating anyone who doesnt speak with perfect informational accuracy? C'mon! Thats rediculous.

Jerk, loser, snob, and whatever else in that same category are not names; theyre appellations given to/as titles in an offensive way.
Please dont post about people calling others names if you get your facts straight.

See? Same principle applied there. Why is it Im always the one seems to take notice of elitist arrogance amongst the learned peoples? And why is Im always the one that has to lock horns with them and their faithfuls?
Mark these words; this is by far way too telling of the society that weve become. Weve up and pasted a predatory group of hypocrits and snaked our way into a more grotesque way of living with our fellow man (& woman [not sexist!]); apathy.
How many times do I have to write these things, never to be taken for what theyre worth, to finally lay down my convictions and will to die like the rest of you?! I cant keep living like this!
Thats it; as soon as I get a degree, Im moving to Tibet to bear the austerities of enlightenment and shed the dukkha (to quote the Buddha)!

Geez, lighten up. I was only kidding around. You quoted me but conveniently left out the smileys. I didn't mean to insult you. I don't even know you. Yea, it is a pet peeve of mine when people post answers to questions with no basis in fact or logic. My main concern is the welfare of the animals, and when people post misinformation, animals die. In hindsight, you gotta admit the stuff about hitting the anemones with rocks and keeping them out of water was kinda funny. :)

BTW, thank you SeaMaiden for defending my honor. :)

You've found me out. I am, as ever, ubiquitously, the Maiden of the Sea (I don't think it took you all the way back to The SubDimension, though, did it? Illegal Bivalve Error! ROFL!!). It's actually one meaning of my given name. If you take the time, get only a bit creative about it, you can search and learn about all administrators, moderators, and RDOTF members here. ;) You shouldn't need to add "reef" to my nick. Searching my real name will give you many listings of boat docks.

Dewr, no one put you in any position to "have" to write anything. All the man was saying was that if a person is not speaking from a position of knowledge, it would be more helpful all the way around if a person didn't speak up at all. You were not the only one he may have been addressing, just the one who provided some of the most outrageous quotes. D'oh! The following makes little sense..

<straightens her facts, thought they were square and plumb..>
I think it's absolutely unnecessary to call names when making an argument. I think I can call it rude behavior. There's a difference between saying, "You're treating someone in a rude manner" and saying, "You're a blow-hard". I hope you can understand my point.
(Does a verbal parry count as playing with knives?)

As to the rest of your posts, I see either a truly wicked sense of humor at work here, or... 8O I see you found my old mates who've nested at The Mutant Swarm, and clearly have a fondness for Budo. He's a good guy.. long, long stories to be told about that lot. He's where I got my bloody blockhead guy from, too. :D

Greg, you're welcome, though I'd speak up about the name-calling for anyone. I think Wannabe was getting really confused, and when someone's new it can be difficult to pull the poop from the taffy.

It's nice to see open discussion as opposed to all out name calling/flame wars.
I myself posted some info I had and forgot to put in that it was just what I had been told....didn't mean for it to come across as gospel, but rather passing on info that I had on this species. Turns out it was incorrect.

The one interesting thing about this post is something rather relevant, I think, to the whole Condylactus thing, which is this:

Why is it there is *so* much disinformation about this species?

After all, with one question, there were lots of posts which were answered in approx. the same way...info that is not true (ie. smashing w/rocks, easy to spread, no way they'll host a clown, etc.)
I mean....I've heard pretty much the same things as in the posted replies from different sources (except the squishing with a rock thing..that was pretty funny)

I'm just curious as to why this species has gotten this rep if it is actually one that's ok to have? Everyplace I've looked and checked I always have gotten pretty much the same info...this is a species to stay away from as it can be more trouble than it's worth...
If that's been untrue, how did all the misinfo get started?

I'm in no way saying that Greg is incorrect...hell, I'm assuming he's right just on the quality of his post! :D
I'm just wondering why/how the Condy has a bad rep....

That is actually such an excellent question I'm going to suggest it for a weekly discussion (not specific to Condylactis). The answers, my friend, are vast and myriad, and go far beyond this one particular issue.

I told you, twice already, that I didnt answer any questions!!!!!! WHAT is so hard to understand about this?!?! Im NOT trying to pick fights or anything with this, its just the actual language involved in this is being misinterpreted, as it often is here (in a place where the words a written!)! Im telling you again and for the final time, so let there be no further confusion/ lame-duck'age: THATS WHAT IVE HEARD. I EVEN SAID IT MYSELF THAT I HIGHLY DOUBTED THAT EVEN 1/100ths OF IT WAS TRUE. I ESPECIALLY DONT ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO TAKE ANYTHING I SAY AS ABSOLUTE FACT, ESPECIALLY WITH AS WRONG AS MY TRACK RECORD IS... I DONT LIKE LOCKING HORNS, BUT I ALSO DONT LIKE BEING SLAPPED AROUND BY PEOPLE WITH YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE BEHIND THEM AS THOUGH THE SHARING OF INFORMATION ON A SITE DESIGNED FOR THUS WAS ACTUALLY RESERVED FOR THOSE WITH DEGREES, OR THAT THIS IS SOME SORT OF INFANTILE RITUAL DESINGED TO KEEP US (ME AT LEAST) PEONS IN THE PROVERBIAL FIELDS. END TRASMISSION
Is it really that incredible or shocking, especially in what seems to be an isolated instance of notice by the ever vigilant seamaiden (I liked how you backed up tangir1 that one time on that freshwater oscar thread), that I might have been a little frustrated after having just finished igniting the strangely subdued wrath of Mr. David Mohr over just about the same exact situation?! I was warmed by all of my aquaria friends about the wiles of the elitism, narcissism, and pride that ran rampantly through the whole saltwater/reef scene. People even tried to discourage me getting into aquariums and stuff because of the people theyve dealt with in their experiences (trust me, I know some old buffs [they arent all that yeilding themselves! ]). I thought, in the same way I initially doubt everything I hear from people (kinda like what I gave at the beginning of this thread  ), that they were exaggerating. Man, they werent kidding! :( What a dismal experience this is going to be for a person like me that contests the haughty brandishing of percieved authority... *sigh*
Oh, and by the way, the quote function doesnt pick up smilies. I thought you would have known that, being an apparently long-time poster here; maybe it just didnt work for me or something... In any case, quit trying to incriminate me; I wont stand for it at any level now.

seamaiden, does budo have anymore of these awesome avatars/sig tricks?! Thats the coolest thing Ive ever seen as an avatar! Even Hwarang's cant/couldnt touch that (sorry Hwarang!)!!! Make him get a reef tank going so he'll post here and hand out awesome avatars like candy or crack or something!!!
You know, suprisingly I started out as almost imacculately altruistic and generally good. Ive actually mostly migrated towards a more wicked evil now... Kinda depressing, but the world did it to me; the humor is still there, just tainted now. One more Bush presidency and Ill be looking for an apartment in hell...

OH MY SWEET MULTIPLE GODS!!! Finally! Someone thats done what Ive done and can (Im assuming) identify! *sighs an uneasy sigh of relief*
I was beginning to think my memory was completely defunct in recallin all the cases of people just presenting what theyve heard from other people or experienced under misconceptions and whatnot... What with the way wolves have been tearing at me lately!

That's a good question and one I've thought about myself. I think there are a few reasons for these misconceptions about Condy anemones. First, they're plentiful and inexpensive, so they show up in every store, even the pet superstores. They are typically maintained in small aquariums under single-tube fluorescent lighting with no regard for water parameters, so the impression is that they're "easy to keep." They'll hang on in these conditions for a month or more before they whither and die, but no one really cares because they are typically sold before they all die and they cost very little. Often, no instructions are given regarding their care and many newbies take a chance with them because they're "cheap." This is all infortunate because being inexpensive is not an excuse to take a chance with a live animal or not bother to get information regarding it's care. I don't have any statistics, but I suspect that the VAST majority of Condy anemones collected for the aquarium trade die within 60 days. As I said previously, this is really a beautiful animal when kept properly and does not get the attention in this hobby that it deserves. IMO, it's equally as beautiful as some of the Pacific-host anemones and a better choice than most of them for inclusion in a reef aquarium.

I understand this, but when you quote someone and leave out the "smileys" it changes the whole meaning of the post. I added the "smileys" to indicate that I was saying these things in a light-hearted way.

I also understand that you added caveats to your post, so you are technically not responsible for the quality of the information, but that doesn't stop others from following that information or perpetuating it. In fact, the original poster stated that he would not get a condy anemone now that he read your posts on the topic. The poster didn't consider that "Dewr" might be wrong because his information is second-hand, and that's pretty typical.

And finally, I'm not going to get drawn into this name-calling contest. I've been posting to various boards since the late 1980's and I've been personally involved in some epic name-calling threads. I learned a long time ago that it serves no purpose to go down that road. Ultimately you wind up looking foolish in an attempt to "save face." I do this for fun and so should you; otherwise what's the point.

I thought you had a sense of humor, my friend, chill out a bit, don't take it so personally. None of it is meant personally. The smileys come through in my quote function.. then again, I have an evil streak, and I happen to enjoy spankings.

You have to watch Budo, you never know what he's gonna come up with. He lives in Holland, I don't believe fishes are his interests. Neat little story, I met him (electronically) while he was living in Durban, and "introduced" him and another online friend of mine electronically about two years ago. They almost immediately fell in love, and he went to Holland to meet with Tha Funky Dutch Chick. Within a few months he moved there, and they are doing the "happily-ever-after" out there now. 8)

You know, suprisingly I started out as almost imacculately altruistic and generally good.

My apologies, but when someone announces their altruism (especially declaring it almost immaculate), it tends to take away from the whole idea of altruism. In my book, altruism is when people share their many hard-earned years of experience and knowledge for free. ;)
I believe that much of what you complain about is a matter of perception. I'm not saying yours is wrong, but I do disagree to a degree. I found my way to this board after finding Bob F. post ten year hiatus. Mind you, I haven't worked the trade or kept any aquatic animals outside our pond goldies in this time, so I felt very out of the loop. But, what I've found here and on Bob's site was welcoming people and a sharing of knowledge. That's ultimately what these places are about, right?

Holy crap, thats one of the few times Ive ever really been unnerved by a lack of knowledge of topical trivia.... *shivers*
Whats with this drug fetish thing? Everyone on this board seems to think its funny or an excuse to act like a moron when your inebriated or high; can you really tell me that
I believe that much of what you complain about is a matter of perception
when you yourself are just perpetuating the same stigma?

Name calling? Whos been calling names here? I think what you meant, Greg, is the great blaming game. I told you, the quote thing doesnt pick up "smilies", even though I included them in the selection! I wish seamaiden would stop mocking me and show me how you keep the smilies, and please dont say add them on afterwards bcause I thought of that and decided to trust the electronic integrity our country and the world has decided to place their faith in...

seamaiden, Ive never read your book, and frankly Im suprised. Claming one's past features and elements of one's dichotomy in no way invalidates the actual course of time. You cant change the past, even if it means trying to change what you once were. Also, Im a fan of double entrende's (stole that one from the Da Vinci Code!), and Im also suprised you didnt cath it... I told you I was evil, right?...

I cant save my face, no matter what I do, right guys? I mean, just the fact that you offered up the fact that Im going to look foolish trying to save it means Im already a gonner, right? I always loved the way Condys looked, and I always thought that they would look great in me tank. But I listened to other people. Fatal error. Now Ive up and lost my face becuase I passed on poisonous information...

You know, somehwere theres a sociology student watching all of this, and Im sure it serves his thesis well...

I'm sorry this topic degenerated into this. A good discussion on Condy anemones would have been worthwhile. FWIW, here's a picture of one I have in a 58 gallon refugium-type aquarium. A RBTA is at the right. As I said previously, they can be good reef aquarium anemones. They're easy to care for, attractive, and don't often roam around the aquarium. This one hasn't moved in a year. It also hasn't eaten any fish like the carpet anemone that lived in that spot before it. :)

There are no benefits to keeping them in a refugium, except it makes an ideal habitat if you're also keeping commensal shrimp. The shrimp are rather delicate and would probably become a welcome meal to larger wrasses or basslets. BTW, I use a 150 watt HQI fixture over this aquarium.
