Not all football players are millionaires and I don't know about other people but it is relaxing cleaning a tank sometimes.

You are more than welcome to stop by my house and get some well-deserved relaxation ;)

Yeah nothing could be more relaxing than catching a damsel in a reef tank full of precariously placed acros. Or having the wife say..."You spend more time on that damn tank than on your family" for the 3rd time today. Relaxing....

This is why you marry a deaf wife this way you have to be looking at her to be nagged  I said sometimes it is relaxing, some of these football players practice violence all week and may enjoy doing something that requires a certain amount of delicacy.

I wish I had more money. Mr. Moyes tank is right up there with my dream tank. And an entire room behind it for maintenance and fragging and (I would add AC :P) such. Hell, I work in the industry and I still can't get enough.

Ahh... the blissful sound of corals growing :)

Thanks for all the kind words guys (I'm 64Ivy, btw. My user name is different here because...well, because I'm an idiot). And as for being famous, I guess I kind of am. But not because of "M...WC". That just made me infamous.

What made me famous was a couple years ago when my daughter, then 4, brought me to her school for Parents Day and announced me to the entire assembly of several hundred with the words, "Now, I'd like to introduce my friend, Daddy."

This got as long a laugh as "Married" ever did and because of it, I'm forever known to the faculty, staff, and students as Daddy.

This may also mean that I am the answer the the ubiquitous question, "Who's Your Daddy?" which makes me REALLY famous. :D

Rasheed Wallace...
bought only the most sought after livestock and, as was reported to me, has no reefkeeping skills at all.

actually, i think they probably refer to you as Mr. Daddy. kinda like all female teachers are automatically Mrs. Smith or Mrs. Jones regardless of their actual marital status.

maybe we should start calling you 'Reef Daddy'.

btw, that story's really cute. my daughter did something similar wednesday (school play-thingy). it felt really great, just like winning the lottery.

Famous people put their pants on one leg at a time, just like us mere mortals :P

It's not unusual for them to have as many hobbys as non-famous persons. Problem is, most of them (like most of us..) travel, or have heavy work schedules, or are too shallow to appreciate a fine work of art that is a reef tank, or are supporting a fine drug habit...you know, just like normal people :P
Perhaps we assume that most reefers are nerds, and famous people are rarely thought of as nerd-like...cept for maybe Steve Urquel :) :)

I believe that the people with the least amount of time and money are the ones we should give the MOST credit to when they own a nice reef, since it means they've truly sacrificed something to own it.
Or, like the boys above, who have done the work themselves. In non-airconditioned conditions :P :P

I would think if the celeb (or in the Titan football player's case, athletes) actually take the time to go into the fish shop and look at stuff, they probably know more then zero. We shouldn't paint such broad strokes by saying people who are rich probably could care less about the science or the setup/maintainance.

A lot of celebs have aquariums/reef tanks but most are put in by interior designers and maintained by maintenance companies.

I know Nicholas Cage is into cephalopds and has an octopus tank. One of the his tank installers contacted me once about information on keeping Nautilus.

Jimmy Jones, the ex-Dolphins coach had a big reef tank.

If you have the Attack of the Clones DVD take a look at one of the features ... in the background you will see a reef tank on one of ILM's engineer's desk.

Aloha!
