I second the 600 with the controller. I have that on my 58G (36x18) tank and it I use the controller to alternate full force and 1/2 force

actually $250 isnt too much for my circulation. So these things aren't out of the question either. They don't look like they would do much for anything much lower than a foot down though.

FYI, the 6000 + single controller + the magnet holder + shipping cost me $362 from Premium Aquatics. I would have bought from Marine Depot(free shipping!) but they did not have everything in stock.

controller pushes the price over the edge for me.

i guess the question is now....

should I use one tunze 6080 combined with sump return for circulation? Is this adequate? is it too much?

I found a few 6080s for 175 so the price is right

... lemme get it right.. the Tunze Stream 6000 is variable controle right? So if it were too much jet I could just turn it down? So I don't really need a controller unless I want to make it VARIABLE (change during the day) right?

Right. If you get the 6000 - even without the controller - it's manually adjustable and you can dial down the flow as needed.

If you plan to have a sandbed or LPS corals I would not put a fixed speed Stream (6060 or 6080 models) on a tank that small (2'). I had a single 6060 in a 50 gallon tank (3' long) and it would knock the LPS corals around and move sand.

You must use the tunze controller. However, you could get the controller at a later date for the 6000. The 6080 is not controlable.

For $199 with free shipping you could get the 6000 from marine depot.

so now there is a new quandry,

would the variable speed Tunze at $250 provide adequate circulation... and would it be cost effective since I can install a closed loop for about the same price?

Without the single controller you can cut down the flow with a small screwdriver.

My problem with a CL(closed Loop) is that they are stuck where you plumb them. The stream can be moved where you want them.

All these things being considered, would you guys see a circulation problem on a 24"cube with a TUNZE 6000 and sump return for circulation?

Concensus?

No. However you may need to move the pump around and/or scale back the power a little. If you are going bare bottom and SPS corals I say run it full power!

We should think about a way to make a DIY stream using an standard cheapo powerhead & mounting a "fan"-type propeller on it.

Peej - I would get stronger pumps for a 6ft tank.

The 6000 in my 3ft tank is good.

It seems like I should be fine then....each pump will cover 3 foot tank.
