being taken at lfs

Hi my freinds son has a bow and the lfs sold him a clam the other day that is on the rock not the sandbed, as for lighting he has a 50/50 pc bulb thats it also has aptaspia all over and is on his second copperband. I was over there yesterday and well just wanted to cry when I saw this tank. The corals don't even fully expand and all that. The lfs gives him all these things he needs to add to his water . I toldhis mother that he doesn't need to add anything just water changes and upgrade that lighting and all will be fine. Then I saw the clam. The lfs is so taking advantage of him aquarium adventure of all places. I have given up on helping him and as for his brothers tank well not sure of the size but its very high and narrow and he has a yellow tang, a foxface, a maroon clown a sixline and soemthing else everything in that tank just looks like it is going to die also it is just so sad that they listen to the guy at the store and not do there research I'm sorry I just had to share and vent with everyone it makes me so happy that I found this sight with all the helpful information and yes I told them to come on here but they don't Thats all Kim

I have many times he said "he is fine listening to the store he goes to the guy really knows what he is talking about' I just wanted to laugh when i heard this listen I am not an expert on saltwater but my 3 tanks are doing fine I told him to stop dosing only add what you need when you need and I also told him to get better lighting and that the lfs people are taking hime for a ride exspecially the high priced ones he thinks he knows what he is doing his brothers tank I have watched everything just crumble away and die his brain his toadstool mushrooms everything then I hear that they redid the tank and all looked clean and they added a anenome a white one with purple tips or something right after adding more live rock and all it's just sad and he is contsantly fussing with the tank A couple of onths ago I told him to move his bubble it's getting to much flow now that bubble is nowhere to be found he asks me for advice and I give it but does he listen noooooo!!! I'll keep trying to get him on the right track no matter how much I get fustrated I will keep on him

I'm sorry, its just that...right now in my head from what you've written I'm thinking "what in the world is wrong with this kid"

If yours is fine, if everything in his tank is in turmoil, he refuses to talk/research outside of an LFS...it just seems SMART to try something different.
How long has he had the tank

It is sad going to the lfs and seeing what some are paying and the advice given. To the LFS defense there is old saying "Buyer Beware". If people walk in and have not done their research they deserve to pay 1000 for a 55 gallon tank, filter and pretty purple gravel. I have seen it in my LFS many times, is it wrong maybe? Personally I feel bad for the Livestock but even in that case I lay the blame more on the person not the LFS.

He is 23 tank about a year old I don't think he will read cause I have sent him this sight and others yes he has seen my tanks

yeah totally on the buyer is the blame when I was there yesterday and his mom was showing me his new coral a hammer I was naming all the other things in his tank and she was like how do you know the names of this stuff I said because I look up everything before I buy it to make sure It will be ok in my tank. He also has a xp3 filter a uv sterilizer, cpr fuge with skimmer, and a seaclone skimmer, 2 maxijet 1200's keeps tank at 74 that I saw yesterday in nov he bought 50 hermits I said he was crazy he said he needed them yeah ok

um lets see i don't know he has a lot of bottles sitting there he really needs lighting big time 1 bulb 50/50 on a 72 hey atleast he has a ro system lolol i will keep trying to help him but he needs to take my advice not just say yeah ok I will do that and do the opposite oh I wish I could remeber what they gave him for the aptaspia it was like copper or something it really didn't sound good man why can't I remember

sounds like your friends is getting some bad advice. Have you ever gone to the store with him or better yet taken him to another store so he can get a second or third opinion. It was alway fun for me when I was young I would get such conflicting opinions from different stores. Not only did I learn a lot about the stores but people and business in general. It was a good life lesson.

I don't know where he's located but there has to be another place you could take him that will give him better advice. He seems lazy. Some people need to be take by the hand sometimes.

I have taken him to a store and well he wasn't happy and my tank does look nicer then his I put up a pic of mine still waiting for a pic of his I have also given him cheato and pepperment shrimps to help with some problems he was like what do I need this for? I told him to help your tank out lolol spaz he doesn't want to go to any other store he has been to petswarehouse with me ok not the best place and jarods store in huntington I don't think he liked it there and that store is great. He likes aqua hut me I don't like that store no price labels and it looked dirty to me and he likes aquarium adventure thats where he goes all the time and is getting so totally ripped off well live and learn I guess

I have never felt the need to openly bash Aquarium Adventure they do more than I ever could to damage their own reputation on a regular basis. This behavior is the reason why our store exists. Enough of us were tired of how that place was being run. I could write pages on things you could never imagine going on their. I will say this there are or were 2 guys that work there that would take advantage of anyone that did not know what they were doing. I saw people leaving with 3 or more different types of tap water conditioners and PH buffers and all sorts of chemicals. Its absurd and it will always catch up with you.

Kim if there is anything I can do to help you help them just let me know we are at your disposal. Just remember You can lead a horse to water but it might take a large pressure rated pump and hose to make him drink.

thanks jared by the way the black cap is doing just wonderful thanks again for him gonna try to stop in by you need a new fish for the 12gl. Sixline needs a freind. Anyways he got the clam there and they should've known not to sell him this after all they did sell him his lighting lolol I also don't want to be a know it all cause I'm not I still have much to learn in this hobby so I send suggestions his way. He doesn't want to listen. I just can't stand to see all these pretty animals being treated like this and to think he started his tank before me and I was taking advice from him Oh the thought of that lolol I have found here and well it really made a difference in my life and my fishies. I try to tell him where to shop and all.

excellent lololol got anything good for my 12gl the sixline is kinda mean I think. I had a firefish from you but he jumped ship right through the net top I have on and the six also ate my peppermint shrimp lolol lil bugger let me know what you have that is good if not he lives alone
