Lets see why many vendors do not respond fast enough in this forum-the key is THERE IS NO MONEY HERE.

Either the vendors don't know how to run business in this kind of forum business or they only treat this site as a side business(kind of like part time). Many venders find it not worthy to spend the amount of effort to respond to the site.

You list an item in CL and the response is much higher than MR and by the end of day, many members in MR wish to get the product below your cost. I know it sounds like I am a bad A$$$ but ask yourself, vendor and members-is that something you have in mind when you either wanna sell or buy an item here. Many just want good price and using lower quality pricing elsewhere to compare some of our good vendor(I don't say all of us are) with quality.

Prices of fish do change from time to time. Sometimes more than twice a week depends how many time we order. I shy away of live stock because of this. Most vendors here are small dealers, some with great heart to run the business with a favor of hobby in it while most online vendors are running them as a supermarket-large import, large sell, low low low price, you get what you don't see-vendors here usually are either runs it like "WYSIWYG" or pre order (you get what you don't see) but with a lower price than online supermarkets. To illustrate that I offer my rocks in ranges of prices: preorder-walsmith rocks usually lower than online vendors, cherry pick y yourself show pcs rocks at a rate much higher than pre order and close to the rate of most retail.

This request of listing prices on items(live stock and custom build stuff) is like the fight between supermarket and papa mama grocery in the old days.

Listing price of live stock is very hard because like HOF and Sean said there is a lot to go in pricing. Lets consider pricing two fish that come in at the same time: both 6" power blue tang and no sign of illness but only difference is vividness of the color. Should they be the same price? If same, customer who got the "not so bright" looking one would complaining the vendor of cheating by giving him the not so good looking one(customer also ask for beauty which I don't know how to list when shopping the fish) while if not same, customer will complain that the price is not is consistent(customer ask for online supermarket style shopping).

I still agree with the way it's set up now

A store or vendor shouldn't be obligated to advertise price. NaCl-H20 for example wants you to go to his website for pricing and buying. Whats wrong with that? What if a vendor wants someone to ask to have some sort of communication with MR members. Different vendors different business plans. If you don't like the way the business is being run don't shop there.
I've been in the Fish business for 18 years and THE PRICE OF FISH CHANGE FROM WEEK TO WEEK. Except this and move on with your life.

Sean if you read my post you have noted that I mentioned a vendor linking his website to the post, as an option to list prices.

I have brought up a valid point and, along with other posters, made valid statements. If you can't contribute to the discussion without getting nasty, then please dont post on the thread. Noone is forcing me to shop at their vendor, and noone is forcing anyone to read this thread.

If a vendor does not post prices and not going to take the time to answer? Then why post? I am a serious buyer. There are vendors here that already lost my business and any recomendations I would send over to them (Word of mouth is the best advertisement). I have spent thousands with them. I surely don't need them, there are tons of stores, websites, ebay, etc out there. They must remember that it is not a privilege to buy from them. This is a hobby, not a necessity...

I didn't think I was getting nasty

I wasn't directing anything at you don't take it personally just making statements that I feel do contribute to the thread. sorry if you didn't feel this way.

If you notice something about this thread the vendors don't mind the current situation. You as a consumer have a decision to shop where you want for whatever reason.

The comment about me moving on with my life wasnt exactly appropriate for a civil discourse.

Again, if you are going to ask why members dont spend more money with vendors/sponsors, then expect some answers you wont like. An astute businessperson listens to the complaints and praises of customers/potential customers and makes the appropriate adjustments. Its why Wal-Mart is all over the country and X-Mart went out of business.

As for Wingo's arguments, I understand the frustrations of being an online vendor, but if you dont want to deal with customers, then dont post. You cannot post items for sale and justify not responding to messages by saying its not worth your time. Obviously it is worth your time or you wouldnt be advertising here. As for the difference in prices, well MR vendors are not the only ones who have to price two specimens of the same fish with different qualities. Heck, I actually have seen MR vendors advertise two different prices for the same species but different quality fish. If one can do it, why cant another? If you already have a website with prices, then link it in your thread or signature (yes I know some do that). If you want to offer a discount to MR members then state in your thread x% off my website prices for MR members. Simple enough, no? Again, you can completely discount my comments, and those of others, as stupid, ignorant, unreasonable. That is your right. But don't complain when you lose business from people who feel the same way. I wasn't trying to knock the vendors on this site by starting this thread. I was trying to ask an honest question and once I received the answer, I was trying to open a discussion on that policy.

I was very serious about this post. Here is a vendor who was taking requests in a thread in there forum and till this day I still have not recieved a response. They could have told me yes they can get it, sorry we can't, whatever. Now should I go out of my way to give them business, should I send 100 pm's and never get a response back and waste my time? http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum...g-requests-suggestions-next-week-s-order.html

Meanwhile they are the ones posting and taking requests...
