Off-Topic: Weekend Trip

Looking for somwhere nice to go for this weekend or next. I wanted to go to Gurney's Inn in Montauk, but they are booked solid. Any other ideas? perhaps a nice lake? I've been to The Sagamore at Lake George and enjoyed that too. I prefer somewhere with boating/sailing/hiking/horseback riding/ and the like.

LI vineyard tour? You can drive along the wine trail and taste all the different wines. Perfect time for it too, just before harvest.

I agree with Zahner,

Mohnok Mountain House - if there is nothing there, then I am sure there is somehting close - It"s New Paltz and not too far either.

most of these places get booked in advance for august.

Al, try looking for a B&B not too far from Lake Minewaska or Mohonk. Also known as the Shawungunk Mountian Range (great rock climbing )

i usually never book these things too far in advance, who knows where i'll be. A big international vacation, fine. but a weekend, i decide a week or two in advance usually.

anyone know about the ceasers in the poconos? they seem to have a lot of activities there (all-inclusive as well).

i've also stayed in this B&B which is kinda near Mohonk. It is probably a 1/2 hour drive through the mountains, gorgeous to do in October. I think you can access some of Mohonk's facilities with a day pass or something.

ok, just looked at some pics of the place online - seems very cheezy. the activities available look great, but the rooms seem like they are designed for porn stars.

We ended up going to Montauk and the Hamptons for the day, was really nice weather there yesterday (i heard it was raining in brooklyn).
Decided to go fishing out there on a half-day boat (1pm-5pm). - I know Rich would be proud of me.

While my wife was throwing up over the side of the boat (sea-sickness) I caught 2 fluke, but both were too small and had to be thrown back.

Cool, i did that a while ago....Stayed at Montauk and went out fishing, caught some sharks and fluke but they were too small for dinner and had to release them. Caught like 3 small sharks and like 4 fluke. All too small, the wave was crazy, the last time i went. Seems like you had some fun. Which motel/hotel you stay at?

yeah, it was very wavy, but they said that it wasnt really worse than normal, i guess that is the norm there.

we wanted to stay at Gurney's Inn, but they were sold out. We just went for the day (left home at 8:00am got to the Hamptons by 9:30am - Left there after dinner at Bobby Vans at 10:30pm and got home at 12:00am).
