I have an Ampeater 2100 and it was pulling about 200W on my close loop, I don't believe any of these ratings from the manufactures.

do you have alot of head loss orback pressure on the pump?

wow, 48 watts instead of 290.

BL costs $450/yr
RD will be $75/yr

one yr would pay for it already.

does it have to run in sump? or can it be external?

they are made to be both in the sump or outside it,

there is 0 heat transfer.

read this from the other thread by moonpod,

"Herman asked me to comment on my experience with the red dragon pump. It's been 2 thumbs up, BUT I have only used it for a few months. I have RD 12s, putatively rated at 3100 gph and 115w draw--those are the numbers on European volt/hz. Typically in the US you see a 33% or so increase in both of those numbers on pumps (compare Euro Eheim numbers to US for instance). Also, I'm sure most of you are aware that the Sequence and Ampmaster pumps draw more wattage than claimed--at least based on "kill a watt" testing. I have no accurate way to judge flow, BUT subjectively a RD 12 pushes at least as much water as a Dart, IMO more water and draws 40w less (160 vs 200 on the killawatt). It is literally silent (like the way velocity pumps are silent--you hear the water moving through the pipes, you don't hear the pump at all. It is considerably smaller than a Dart (8" long). It uses 40mm in/out which converts to 1.25" roughly (actually is a bit smaller b/c the 40mm is the outside diameter of the pipe) which is nice b/c you can "T" off to 2 1 inch lines without "restricting" the flow. Plumbing is easier. You need to "T" to 3 1 inch lines to accomodate 1.5" outlets without restricting. And near as I can tell there is NO heat transfer.

Now is it "worth" the price--I mean, you can buy almost 5 Darts for the price of a RD12. Well, I think it really depends on your application. For me, the pumps are in the living room (silence is golden) and I really, really want to avoid a chiller (there is SOME albeit very reasonable heat transfer with other pump options). The electrical effeciency is a bonus. So for me it's worth it. However, if you've got say a basement pump room and you need to run it against significant head pressure and noise isn't an issue....than no this is not the pump for you."

It was in my close loop so the head loss should be zero in theory, friction loss is estamated to be about 5 feet.
--
Blueline is a large pressure rated pump (my guess is about 25+ feet) and I am not sure the max head on the Red Dragon Pump- 4.5 M3 is, but the last chart on this page: http://english.royal-exclusiv.de/output-curve-red-dragon-pump.htm

shows all the pumps to be a max of 4 meters or about 12 feet.

It all depends what you are using your pump for and the RD is not very good if you need pressure for a skimmer or to overcome head pressure from plumbing.

Thats bad 200 watts it should be alot less but anyway they put out 2700gph at0ft compared tyo the BL70 1750gph 290watts so it's still not bad

max head for BL70 is 39ft.
RD loss to head is pretty bad just like the amp eater. so I'd assume you'd have a similar watt usage from backpressure.
the amp master 2100 has a max head of 11ft. so 5 ft. is almost half of the head it can handle.
I'm not to sure if these pump are realy worth the high price.

If you realy want to save money use a Mag or a rio or a CAP pump they work ( for a while) and they're low wattage.
