:help:

My Pacific Coast CL650 1/4 HP chiller decided to start making an awful noise overnight...:sigh:

Turned it off let it cool down since it didn't smell so good...
The pump is pumping water to it.

Tried turning it back on and it makes a really loud buzzing noise.:eek1: ...It wasn't making that buzzing noise when I turned it off :arg:
Any ideas?

Anyone recall how to get in touch with that fellow in NJ..I think his name is Kevin. Tried a quick search but couldn't find the info.

Need to go pick up someone at the airport now.:arg:

Tank is currently at 80 degrees, going to hang a fan or two on there for the meantime as I usually run at 78. At least I finally have A/C in my office here (at home) so I'll crank that up some...:cool3:

thxs!!

Kath I am not good with Chillers but it sounds like the compressor went bad. Maybe a refrigeration person could fix it?

Kathy,

That is what your Aqua Logic drop in was for :smash:

..painfully aware of that Warren...I'm now doing that to myself...lol
:smash: <--Kathy

Thanks guys..Keith, not Kevin. I was close! And yes, he is a really great guy, I'd spoken to him in the past due to a chiller issue.
I'll give him a shout tonight and see if he knows what that awful sound is caused from. Sigh...
Tank is currently at 78.9 with the A/C blasting..but the lights just came on...

I have 5 spare chillers, need one? :lol2:
You are soooo helpful Pierce! Sure, drop one by please! lol
You put up a tank yet?

I called Keith last night..haven't heard back yet, might be on vacation?
He'll call, not overly concerned..being patient :)
So far the A/C is doing ok though the tank did get up to 82 yesterday..

Kathy,
Ask Keith what he thinks of the PCI chiller :bablefish

I am an un-proud owner of the same chiller

Is you CL-650 as restrictive in terms of flow as mine? I'm pretty sure the head pressure on the puppy kills about 400gph from whatever pump your using.

Also, 2 hours to chill 120g down 3 degrees are bad statistics :shhh:

I'll ask Warren :)
I can't say I have been unhappy with the chiller, does a great job for me and I recall in the beginning I was concerned that it lowered the tank temp too fast!
It requires 600 to 1000 gph flow..think I'm running a Mag 12 on it?...maybe a 9.5...and it seems I'm not losing too much on head loss as it near bubbles up & over my sump on the return line.
If anything I might have caused an issue when it was moved & fitted with the duct to cool things off in here.
Hoping Keith will be able to tell me what is the issue from the sound it is making :)
