Where in Nassau County to buy tanks?

I'm located in Westbury, and noticed a bunch of you from the local area.

Along with the addition of our first baby I have decided to get back into keeping a small reef. I had prevously had a 55 Gal. reef running for 4 years before I move to Long Island. I broke everything down and passed to family members.

Well any way... I would like to start another reef, now that I am retty much in the home I plan to stay in. I only have a small corner area in the living room that is sufficent enough to place a tank. I was leaning towards a Corner (Bow Front) tank that is 92 Gal.

So... Where in Nassau or Queens can I get a tank and a reasonable price? I visited a local shop (Aquarium Adventures) and they seem to be priced a bit high. I had my first reef when I lived in NJ and the tank prices seem so much cheaper there.

Rich, welcome to MR. I am in Mineola and there are few others near by as well.

Jim was selling a 92 corner, check the for sale forum to see if it is still available. Otherwise you can get some prices from Cindy at www.jcaquatics.com, she is out by Stony brook but her prices are worth the drive.

The best LFS for cheap fish would be Pet Werehouse and Pets of New Hyde Park, Aquarium Adventure is too expensive even when they have sales.

I recently purchased a tank and was in the same boat as you. I searched all over to find the cheapest 90G RR tank I could. After a lot of searching I found that Aquarium Adventure was actually the cheapest. I went to fishtown the next day and spoke to the owner who is a family friend and she matched the price of aquarium adventure to keep my business. I called everywhere on LI almost and those 2 were the cheapest some of the places i called were pets-warehouse, NHP pets, aquarium adventure, fishtown usa, mutts and butts, county critters, etc You might wanna start at fishtown and aquarium adventure or if you wanna wait i'll be selling my 46G bow front with stand, canopy, wet dry/ LR rubble and 36" PC lighting in about 2 weeks.

Hey John,

Thanks for the info. I spent a good portion of today visiting a bunch of shops EAST of westbury. Pet Warehouse, couple places on Old Country Road near Wantaugh Parkway, Petco on Hempstead Tnpk, another shop at 107 & Hemstead Tnpk, all total I was at 5 shops. Prices all seem to be fairly close. I am waiting to see what happens with the tank "House" is selling, once it goes... I have the ok from the boss (My wife) to get the 120 (48x24x24) that I want.

I'm in no rush, I need to buy EVERYTHING! so, until I have a tank, I can't really do much. Lots of other logistics to figure out too... placement of filters, do I want / need refugium, Calcium reactor, UV etc...

I have been away from reefkeeping for almost 10 years and things have changed.
