baking powder is baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) plus cream of tartar and some kind of starch as a drying agent. I don't think you can use baking powder in place of baking soda for aquarium applications

OOps, got you wrong. But if i were you, i won't take the chances of a wrong answer. So why not just go grab baking soda or washing soda, this depends on your PH. Since they are easy to obtain and cheap. But a better option is Mrs. Wedges Pickling Lime, this buffs up Calcium and alk at the same time. This can actually replace B-ionic, if you go with dosing. But in a large tank like yours. The long run would be much better with a calcium reactor, saves you money in the end and tons of hassels.

Huge water changes is needed if you plan go with water change or you can go with increasing alk. If you increase alk, your calcium will decrease. alk and calcium are vice versa.

Correction for high caclium problem - This is in the link i post before

For systems with a pH of 8.2 or above, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a good choice. For systems with a pH below 8.2, washing soda (sodium carbonate) is a good choice (though use some baking soda too if the correction is a large one and the pH gets too high; that is, above pH 8.5 or so).

Actually water changes might not help if you are using Oceanic salt, this salt contains very high calcium. A fresh mix batch of saltwater would probably contain 500+ calcium. So i recommend dose baking soda or washing soda.

I deal with the same exact problem like you half years ago...:) Good Luck
